I have one of the cheap "8 gauge" amplifier kits installed in my 1997 lexus ls400. Also there is a kicker zx 400.1 that has a birthsheet of 484 watts, and a kicker cvr 10" wired at 2 ?'s. The low pass filter is set at 100 Hz, the gain is set to 100% with the volume knob wired to near the seat in the car to turn the bass up and down. But when i go around 150/200 watts, the amplifier shuts off. It doesn't go into protect mode, it just completely shuts off. Do you think that this could be due to a small ground wire. it looks as if the ground wire is maybe 10 gauge lol. I am going to buy new wires for it, but it just seems you would think the amp would go into protect mode instead of all the power cutting out. Is this normal with small wires?
