My Job *sigh*

I work in a bakery as a cashier. It's not flashy but it's not very stressful, the hours are great, and it pays some of the bills. I was a retail manager for awhile and I ended up suffering from a severe nervous breakdown. Anyways, this job has been nice for me. It's a small crew and the owners are fantastic.

My beef? Even though I'm no longer the newest employee(thus the lowest on the totem pole), I'm officially the only one who's not being crosstrained in other areas of the store and whenever someone else needs extra hours, it's my hours that are chipped away. I know it's not because I'm a poor worker, my bosses compliment me all the time and tell everyone else that I'm the most dependable one there(I've never called off a shift and I'm almost never late).

I have never had a job before where my growth within the company has been so stunted. I have no idea what to do. Seriously I don't.

Should I quit and find a new job or should I lay low, do my usual good performance, and wait for the brownnosers to finally break the camel's back thus giving me more perks and hours?

I don't know a lot about having a job, having only worked 3 but I'll give you what advice I can. Talk to your manager/owner/whoever cares. Tell them that you need to know that you have a future in the company, and that you need to have a certain amount of hours no matter what. Tell him that you want to climb up and that you will work hard to do so. The worst he can say is that you are in an inferior position and he dosen't have room to promote, in the case I think you should probably leave and find the company you have a future in. Good luck Gollumz.

ZOMG! U R SEW M33N 2 M3!

:D

No you are right. I should stop being such a lil bitch. I'm afraid I grow into a bigger pussy as I get older. I need my own Lifetime movie.

I wish I had the backbone I had when I was 21. I wish I had alot of things I had when I was 21.

Agreeing, for the most part, with YoungYesRod. When the time is quiet, ask the boss to talk, and let him/her know that you're very interested in expanding your capabilities, and learning other facets of the business. Based on the boss' reaction/response, you'll either be offered those opportunities, or find out what might be needed before he/she feels you are ready.

It does sound like a restful occupation, and I can understand wanting to remain in that job. Your dependability is known, so think of this as a chance to stretch your talents.

Good luck!

Yeah the best thing to do, I don't know how personal you are with your boss. Try to talk to the one on top nothing lower they can't help you. Just let them know you have interest in expanding your skills at the job and becoming more valuable to the small business/small company. :happysad: Pretty much how everyone else is saying it but make sure to emphasize on your interest in raising the bar.

I agree, though i was cross trained in away, if you are coll with your boss then good for it. what really sucks is being at work 7 days a week and not hitting fourty hours a week, having a douche bag boss and co- works that they dumber and more mentaly fucked up them you. Wlecome to my world. Though I did get a .27 cent raise after a year. All in all go for it.
