I am proud to annouce I have completed my first Symbian conversion today. I sold a friend of mine a Made in Finland N91 sometime last week. He was hesitant at first considering the pricetag I put on it, its difficult for alot of people to see the use in a $400 phone. But then, there are the perks.
I decided to start him off with mp3s. Just a few, because that is what the N91 was made for. He got a little more interested, but still there is always that "I can just buy an iPod statement" that I remember giving, well I got it.
Then we went to Opera. He has never been able to go to any other site besides the ones he was "restricted" to for such a long time. This was very interesting to him, then I started up Agile. He was even more thrilled.
Then I moved on to full length movies. I already had quite a few movies already converted in s60v3 for my N73, Green Street Holigans being on of my favorites. He really liked this, and the fact that he could watch them and listen at work without his boss knowing(bluetooth) was a cool feature for him as well.
Then we went to TomTom, took me a bit but I got it working, loved it, being a programmer he was picking up the "cracked version of this" and "adjust any settings to make it the way you like it" of that type of stuff. He was way into it at this point.
Sold.
I still remember my first phone, a Nokia 7610, killer looks, its funny to see how far I have come since then. I remember how hesitant I was at first. I wasn't sure if I wanted to drop the cash for this one or for that one. Glad I did.
So for all of you who hate to deal with the n00b, remember, we were all there once. I know I still feel that way sometimes when I ask the right questions. So don't give up, for the symbian legacy to continue...it starts with you.
