My cat has been acting weird lately, not at all like himself, hiding under the bed instead of wanting to be in your face, not wanting to play with the dog that he is best pals with, leaving kitty dribbles in the mixing bowl in the cabinet.... he didn't seem to be hurting, just somewhat disgruntled and uncomfortable. I take him to the vet and they jam the thermometer up his ass, and stuffed a syringe up his unit to take a urine sample, which he took in remarkably good grace. Turns out he had crystals in his bladder, and was given some antibiotics and we went home. He looked slightly disgruntled and undignified but not sick. 3 days later, all of a sudden, the cat can't move, goes all limp and cold and his breathing was super labored and shallow. I put him on a heating pad and gave him water w/ a dropper because he was too weak to drink on his own. We were supposed to be having a going away party for a friend at our house, but I spent all night sitting with him and watched him suffer till he stopped breathing. All I could do was sit there and watch him die; it was such a horrid helpless feeling.
He was barely 2 yrs old and it just happened so fast. It was so frustrating to know that he was hurting and there was nothing I could do. Luckily my boyfriend and my friends are great. They left the part to help me bury him. They dug the hole while I wrapped him up, and they helped me bury him in the backyard. They even raided the neighbor's yards for rocks to put on top of him so other animals couldn't dig him up. The dog keeps searching the house looking for his friend, looking in all the cat's favorite napping spots, and looking at me like I have him hidden behind my back. And my boyfriend wants me to get another cat right away to keep they dog company. The cat hasn't even been gone 24hrs yet! I am not ready for another one so quickly. This really sucks.
