My car radio acts like it is possessed!?

I have a 2003 Ford Focus. I'll turn the radio on and it will play and then it shut off by itself. The dealer looked and said they can't find anything wrong with it. after that it worked fine for a month and it is doing it again. The clock works, but no light or radio works. It turns on & off by itself. I have no control over it. I can't turn it on. It doesn't come on. The dealer says that there is no short in the system. What can it be?
 
on the radio, there is a plate that comes off as an anit-theft device. when this plate comes off, the radio shuts off. the plate needs to be pushed back on for the radio to work best.
