My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding

What was it one of them said at the beginning of the programme? It was something like 'call me anything but don't call me a ------' Did anyone hear what he said?

Like I said, their are good 'uns and bad 'uns in every community, I got the good experience, you got the bad.

A lot of the comments on here are shallow. There are people looking down their noses at them for their dress sense alone and saying that they feel superior to them because of it, but you seem to gloss over that.

If people have a negative view based on their own experiences then I don't have a problem with that, but a few on here are just parroting out tabloid stereotypes. My own experiences were positive and different to that so I thought I would try and level up the thread.

Like I said, their taste in clothes is not my cup of tea, but are they really hurting anyone by dressing the way they want? I don't think so.

Worse! The women all turn up in neon clothes barely covering their boobs and crotch, caked in fake tan and tacky jewellery. The men in their "good" tracksuits and gold chains. The children are all dressed exactly like the adults of course. There's about 8 Godparents generally, they always arrive in white stretch hummers and the poor babies look like lacy toilet roll holders! And there is generally a lot of fake tan left on the font

It's gotten so bad that our church has introduced a dress code, not that they take any notice.

A few times (According to my priest, I don't attend ranom Christenings for fun ;)) rival families have turned up to cause trouble, and some families Christen their babies in separate churches 2 or 3 times to get more benefits!

Ahh thanks! I wondered about that as it was briefly shown in the trailer for the show. Was there a reason they didn't show it does anyone know?

Maybe they'll show it at a later date?

There's a traveller site near my home and you can tell the girls a mile off. They all look the same, very revealing and tacky clothes even during the day, in all weathers. Lots of fake tan and even more chunky cold jewellery.

She looked like her hair needed a bloody good wash on her wedding day. It looked all greasy when they were sitting down at the altar.

Did anyone else notice the awkward body language between Joan and Pa at the end when they were talking? They didn't look like a couple who were madly in love and had just got married.

I really felt for her :(

It sounded like she had every reason to be terrified! A husband she'd met twice and argued with.. why marry him then?! It seemed like she was worried about being unmarried at 22, maybe she just accepted the first proposal she got?

That's true.

I can't remember which groom it was, but he met his wife at the fair and said he talked to her, had a couple of dances with her and then got a kiss at the end of the night and felt lucky at getting that. It was quite endearing in a way. :o
