I have a 1989 honda accord lxi coupe with 224000 miles on it. It is a 5 speed manual. When I try to turn the key it doesn't make a sound only the dashboard lights go on but i cant hear the car trying to start the engine will not crank as if there is no fuel. but there is 3/4 tank of fuel the battery has a full charge the headlights and music can come on but the engine itself will not start any suggestions? I have driven this car lots of times and not ready to give it up and can not afford to go to mechanic. So can someone please hint me on a way to go about this?

if it don,t crank then clean the battery terminals and see if the starter is sticking. take a hammer and hit the starter lightly.

If you're not hearing the engine even attempt to turn when you hit the ignition (like silence), your starter may be shot. Good news is that, in a car with a manual transmission, you can get around that. Pop-starting a stick shift car isn't difficult. It's easier with a friend or if you're facing down a hill, but it can be done on your own...

(1) Put the car in neutral
(2) Get the car rolling forward -- only a couple of mph is necessary. This is where it may help to have the friend. IF YOU HAVE THE FRIEND WITH YOU, once the car gets going, MAKE SURE HE STOPS PUSHING AND ALLOWS THE CAR TO ROLL AWAY FROM HIM. During the completion of this process, the car is going to suddenly stop, as you'll see in a moment.
(3) Throw the clutch in and put the gearshift into 1st gear.
(4) QUICKLY let the clutch completely out and QUICKLY throw it all the way back in. You'll feel the car lurch to a sudden stop, but the car may start!

That's generally applicable if the only problem is your starter. I don't suggest you keep up with this method of starting the car, but it will get you rolling until you CAN put a new starter in, which I suggest you do if that's the problem.

If the engine DOES turn when you hit the key, but it won't start/turn over, then there may be a problem with fuel delivery (fuel pump, other fuel line obstruction) or the electrical distribution system (plugs/points, coil, etc.).

Try the pop-start, and if it works, more than likely, you probably have a faulty starter.

Could be your starter or relay. If you know where the starter is, give it a whack, but not hard enough to crack it. Also, you could try putting it into high gear then budging the whole car backwards. This may cause the starter gear to retract if it is caught up in the flywheel. Have a look at your battery terminals. If they are cleaned it is likely the car will turn over. (Try these ideas in reverse priority).

If it isn't cranking over that means the battery is dead which you claim isn't, then the starter could be acting up. Find the starter and whack it with a hammer a few times. Then it'll probably start. If not that you need to find a mechanic.
