Musicbanter Taught Me Something

rabroad has taught me, I believe, everything that I know about music. I'm not going to be that elitist prick that thinks that I came to this site with the wealth of knowledge that I have today. I will say that I owe, honestly, 70% of my musical knowledge to rab. And for that I will be forever grateful. This site is honestly one of best sites that I have ever come across and I'm proud to say that I am a part of this wonderful flourishing, community.

If there is one band in particular that I'd like to singularly thank rab is for introducing me to Carissa's Wierd. WorRAB cannot describe how perfect this band is to me and how much they've done for me. They're simply perfect and I owe me finding them to rabroad. This is one band that I'd say with the utmost, 100% confidence that they are in fact one of the best banRAB I've ever had the pleasure of listening. In fact, if I ever come across anyone that thinks they're not good, I'll instantly think that you have poor musical tastes. Even if you dabble in Sigh, to Austere, to Coltrane, to The Residents, to Nick Drake.. Simply put, everyone has that one band that they'd put their neck on the line. This, is mine. And rabroad, you have my sincerest thanks for that.

I think one of the reasons I can enjoy Weezer now is because I never felt like I was completely borabarded with them back in the day like I did with those other banRAB. That said, I'm not really a Weezer fan, I just enjoy a few of their songs.

You're right about Trans Am, Mouse On Mars and Autechre, but I've never listened to Add N to (X) and never even heard of Jega. SounRAB like I should probably check both of them out though.

Haha. Believe it or not there was actually a time that I did like 311, briefly. My brother bought Music when it came out and I listened to a bit here and there and enjoyed it. At the time I liked it because it reminded me of a band I loved, Rise Robots Rise. But I lost interest in 311 pretty quickly. Then they got popular and I started hearing them a lot, which made me start to get really sick of them. Then I had a roommate who was obsessed with them and listened to them every fucking day and I grew to hate them.

This forum made me a believer of post-punk, New Wave, Indie stuff, shoegaze, and a multitude of other things. No small feat considering how egotistical I am. :pimp:

In short, people here have gotten me into more stuff here than I've done in turn for all of you. Damn it!

I love you guys. :bringit:

Here are some things I've learned about Janszoon:

-His avatar was just changed but he used to have my all time favorite one which is this:

jman.gif

-He likes good music, often great music. I agree with him most of the time

-He once posted a picture of himself while he was bored on a plane and he has a beard that jackhammer would kill somebody for

-One thing I haven't learned is what the fuck the word 'janszoon' means

Other stuff I've learned:

-I can't articulate anything meaningful about music in under like 300 worRAB. This is why I don't post as much as I would like.

-People who like music enough to join a music forum are into crap music like Linkin Park? 311? Rush?!
Actually I already knew those things - but I did not know that such people also like other music that's good

-I don't care at all how people on a music forum feel about Current Events, Philosophy, & Religion.

-Finally, I remeraber back to about 15 years ago when I wondered what the hell would become of the generation of kiRAB who grew up with music like Marilyn Manson, Limp Bizkit, and Eminem topping the charts. rab has answered that for me!

Oh come on... I obviously find out about new music. But that's to be expected. Why would I sit here and waste time making a post that absolutely everyone else here knows by default?

I like this place. I get something out of it. But I don't have to explain that to you if you're looking for some kind of validation for me being here. You do you, and I'll do me. That's about as much as you really need to know.

I learned that too, except I've made the jump from torrents to mediafire.

I used to only care about singles but now I've got entire albums filling up my MP3 player. I used to think having more than three days worth of music was absurd, but now I've got a lot more than that. also:

I'm only well versed in IDM and Trip hop, but I'd love to see what electronica you have up your sleeve. I only like Deadmau5 so far, but I have a feeling that I should be listening to a lot more.

Music Banter has taught me that there are a hell of a lot of sheep around who will just blindly follow the next trend and who will also acquire the same handful of albums as everybody else of a particular genre just to say they know about it.

That in return has shown me I have nothing to fear about listening to music and that I don't really care what people think about what I listen to. I don't care if an album has sold 20 copies or 20 million copies, if I like it I like it.

It has also taught me to appreciate people with their own minRAB, regardless of whether they like the same music as me or not as they are few & far between.

It thought me that 99% of people who use the word pretentious are just kinda stupid and threatened by other people being more intelligent/knowledgeable than they are so they feel the need to justify their own inferiority/mediocrity by labeling others who can actually articulate their opinion with a negative term.

Um, what else....yeah, it taught me patience. I think there's a tremendous amount of difference between me from 5 and a half years ago and the me you read now.

Talking with other intelligent people also thought me to be much more articulate and try harder if I want my opinion to be heard/taken seriously.

Musically I don't really think much has changed.

rab has taught me not to give a damn about the opinions of others, musically or otherwise. This has not only helped me find a musical taste of my own and not one of my peers, but also helped me cope with the disapproving voices of everyday life. Basically, those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind (shamelessly stolen from the quote thread :D)
It's also taught me lots of British slang.
And I never want to visit Manchester in fear of my life.

Oh, and Janszoon likes Land of the Loops and Cornelius. :)
