As we all know there are so many musicals that have made it to the big screen & vice versa,
-Hairspray
-Mamma Mia
-Grease
-Rent
-High School Musical
-Billy Elliot
-Legally Blonde

to name a few!!

which stage shows do you think should make it to the big screen??

... or which movies do you think should be made into stage musicals??

I'd love to see a west end production of 'Moulin Rouge' Can you imagine how fantastic the final scene of 'Come what may' would be like???????:eek:

I want to see either Les Miserables or Miss Saigon made into a film, both would be brilliant, there was even talk years ago of Cameron doing this with Les Mis but it went quiet :-(

There is a Les Mis film

Miss Saigon would be amazing! Maybe producers are not keen to do it because it's all singin (not sure if there's a word for musicals like that:confused:) so this might put them off...

I wish they bought more stage musicals out on dvd. they rarely do this and it's a shame because it would give people a taste of the musical which would entice them to go and see it live!

That film is an adaptation of the novel the musical is based on. It has nothing to do with the musical and anyone who buys it thinking that is what they will get will be very dissapointed. There have been countless versions of the novel Les Miserables and the musical one is IMHO the best yet sadly know one has dared transfer it to the big screen as yet. Hopefully somone will before Phillip Quast is too old to still play inspector Javert, if anyone else is picked I may boycott ;)

Got to add 'Blood Brothers' to the list. Fantastic musical but I believe the story is more memorable than the songs and I think this would transfer better onto the screen than others that have good songs but a weak plot.

Miss Saigon has a combination of both I believe, from what I know about it...my vote for these two!

My favourite ever musical is Seven Brides For Seven Brothers, which I believe was a film first and then adapted for stage. I will be going to see the stage show in september I cant wait:D

It will be intersting to see how they do all the dancing which was so exceptional in the film, I believe the Lonesome Pole cat routine was perfomed as live and continously all the way through in one take on film and wonder if it can be pulled of on stage, cant wait to find out.

Sweeny Todd and Mamma mia! I think are the most resont stage to screen adaptations.

Yeah Blood Brothers is amazing, not sure how the whole child/adult thing would work though as this is part of the humour of the stage version.

Good point....I don't think they should change it. You're right, it's part of its overall appeal and those scenes are hilarious! Mybe this is why it's never been made into a film.

This is kind of random but I think Wicked might be getting made into a movie (I heard rumors about it when my mum and I did the Behind the Emerald curtain thing in New York which is behind the scenes of Wicked (the musical)) :D
So that would be another musical made into movie!
Hope this is true and that I'm not spouting rambling rubbish!

The Producers was so bad I wept and I was so looking forward to it because I love the original. Evita was also pretty awful but I laughed all the way through that.

No I read that somewhere too :)

I really want Annie to come back to the West End, I love that film and never got the chance to see it in London first time round.

I don't like the look of Wicked being made into a movie to be honest. It's too spectacular on stage.

I'm in New York at the moment and today I went Broadway to watch the new Mel Brooks musical 'Young Frankenstein' which of course was created from the original classic non-musical movie. It was absolutely fantastic and hilarious from start to finish. I really hope it comes to England because it was a riot and the songs were so catchy and fun. I'd really recommend it for fans of the film and Mel Brooks fans. Mel did a great job on keeping the jokes from the original and expanding them on the stage as I thought it wouldn't really work. The cast were fantasic and luckily I saw Megan (Karen from Will and Grace) who played Elizabeth as it's her last day on Saturday. What a voice she has!!! Lovely lady too. :p

I also loved The Producers movie which was adapted from the stage show. Sure, some of the jokes didn't work as they did on stage but it was still alot of fun.

I also prefer the film Hairspray to the show I'm afraid to say. The story was alot tighter and well put together - made more sense.

I didn't know Spamalot was being made into a film. Should be fun because it's a great show. Still I fear it will go the same way as The Producers and RENT.

Sunset Boulevard has been touted around for years with Glenn Close in the lead role but so far, nothing definite, id like to see this happen,

A film version of Les Mis as well would be welcome
