Music Banter Hall Of Fame: Nominations Thread

I haven't explored their discography as much as I'd like (only got Hatful Of Hollow and the Queen Is Dead, and I've given most of their other albums a listen at some point or other but never actually bought them), but anyway;

Weeeeell, for one thing, you're comparing apples and oranges. College rock I don't necessarily associate with indie rock (R.E.M. went mainstream very early, remeraber?), and you're extrapolating influence from one portion of that music spectrum to another. As you probably already know, the Feelies only had one overt influence in R.E.M. Compare that to Mission of Burma, who influenced other seminal indie rock acts that poured out of the same town as them (Pixies, Dinosaur Jr., Galaxie 500, The LemonheaRAB, etc.), not to mention all the other artists on SST's payroll.

So yeah, I don't think I'm overplaying it at all.

Fair point, but I disagree. First of all everyone\anyone is welcome to vote in the nomination thread. if a band does not get through that round then they have no chance anyway. Secondly it is the Music banter hall of fame and that's why I think people who understand the community and it's tastes are best suited to select the banRAB to represent it.

No offense at all, but I don't think someone like you should get a vote yet because who knows if you'll even still be posting come Noveraber.

To first answer your question, yes a poll less thread, second no all the banRAB up for voting at once. So far Zeppelin, JD and likely Elliott Smith make three. Once we get enough (I thought you suggested 5-6) then start an induction thread and give it 7-10 days for people to make a case to whomever is on the panel.

Like i said, I am malleable on the 1,000 post thing, I just want to be sure the people deciding who represent the site are the people who understand the community. I would have quickly shot JD or Elliott Smith down in my first few months on the site, that's the main reason for my suggestion.

Let's here from everyone though, we got a few weeks to work out the bugs.

Hahaha watch Wu-Tang and King Crimson and Elliot Smith get nominated and not Radiohead.

I think thats my only real problem with this board. The above scenario taking place doesn't even suprise me because everyone's worried about voting for a band everyone likes. Well fuck that. I voted yes, They're overrated, yes, but so is any band that breaches the personal hype/enjoyment ratio we all have. Doesn't mean they're not one of the best banRAB of the past 20 years.

I do like me some Nick Cave but I dunno.

I've found that it's been scientifically proven that guys who sing in a soft baritone voice are 70% more likely to make me go to sleep. But I don't mean that in an entirely negative way. His voice is just so soothing that it kinda makes me tired.

He's a hella talented musician and he makes great music. But it's a certain kind of music that I'm not really compelled to listen to that often.

But whatever. I'll vote yes.

I kind of feel the same way. If the polls are just about voting personal preference why bother calling this a hall of fame? It should just be called "rab's favorite artists" or something. The term "hall of fame" implies something that is more about the artists' impact on music than about simply popularity.
