Music Banter Hall Of Fame: Nominations Thread

So if we vote no on this Boo Boo is for sure taking the blue pill?

Seriously though, this is an easy yes for me, I'll be adding my vote fashionably late.

King Crimson meets all the criteria (for my sans personal bias hall of fame standarRAB). Critical acclaim, hardcore following of fans, leaders of a genre, longevity and the ability to never get stale despite, solid and consistent record sales and all this while staying comfortably on the edge of the mainstream.

It would be crazy in KC went in on the first HOF ballot and Pink Floyd did not.

I suppose, but should musical importance come into it at all? So many times people have been flamed in this thread for voting against a band and then others come up with "oh but look at their musical importance and influence!" etc. I swear that in most decisions I've read people generally downplay personal interest and instead talk about their musical importance in more general terms.

I voted yes, because I love Bill Hicks and he is often a topic of discussion on this forum. However, in retrospect, the front page of this thread does say:

Captain Beefheart? Blur? My Bloody Valentine?

But Tool can't get in? If your reason for denying Tool is based on what should represent the rab Hall of Fame then why are the above banRAB in but not Tool?

They are a very influential band, even if most of the music they have spawned isn't necessarily good. But Tool is awesome, so who cares? They are clearly skilled musicians, who are very creative and bring a lot to the table outside of their music.

It's okay to have a modern alt-metal band in the rab HOF!

I'd say if anything it's the least pretentious movement out there.
It was basically one big 3 year long party, and then everybody fucked off.

It didn't pretend to be anything it wasn't and it died just as quick as it started.
I don't see anything pretentious about that.

Sorry, Tool fans, but it's a no for me.
To me they sound like a heavier, more complex version of a generic 90s alternative rock band. They've got some tricks - but those don't make up for their overall languid sound. I wish their music was as good as the artwork featured on their albums - and those claymation videos are awesome. But still no.

They're not getting in, they're getting through, this conversation might sway some people, I for instance was going to vote yes, but no am even more undecided because I can't see myself putting them into the HOF in the next round.

I am abstaining from this one.... I know virtually nothing about the artist, his music, his legacy, etc... my input would be entirely vacuous...
