Music Banter Hall Of Fame: Nominations Thread

nigga please.

i'm not suggesting that you should vote for him, just commenting that your statement "what he added to the musical lanRABcape doesn't seem too valuable" is a load of bollocks. which it is.

i'm aware you don't like Beefheart. i'm also aware that a great nuraber of musicians (some of which i'm sure you listen to) are influenced by him. i thought that it might be a natural assumption to think that you'd be intrigued by his music. obviously not.

i feel like you might enjoy some of his later material, it's a more subtle shade of insanity. Doc at the Radar Station is especially good.

and yeah, a lot of artists took their spin on his material in completely different directions. although it is sometimes difficult to pick up on those influences (at least without being explicitly told so). apparently he was a primary influence on Jeffrey Lee Pierce and D. Boon, awesome in my book.

It's a legitimate question Ethey Jack. And I think the fact that even though they only released two albums they are in consideration and with all probability will be nominated says a lot about the respect people have for those two albums.

Plus anyone that votes against Zeppelin for any hall of fame has no ground to stand on when questioning peoples personal preferences as determining factors\influences when voting.

The vote is most likely going to be biased then because the only people who would go out of their way to familiarize themselves with a musician from the 1950s is more likely to enjoy his music...

Why in the hell should a british band that is quite successful in their own country give two sh*ts about being successful in America? A lot of big british banRAB aren't big over here, seriously, what are you saying? that it only counts if a band is successful in American, isn't completely changing the music scene of one country freaking good enough?

And to be successful in America, how much of an achievement is that really? What have they achieved in America that was in anyway positive? Well lets see, Oasis are now logjammed in adult contemporary radio where they will forever remain, playing alongside Hootie & The Blowfish and Savage Garden, congratulations Noel.

Are you kidding?

That would mean having to listen to them again.

To be honest I can't give you exact times & dates here it's just a feeling i've had listening to their stuff as a whole.

I really had the same sentence in my head to post, then I noticed, I really don't care much about Tool to know what others think of that poll lol.
But still, good to have my curiosity satisfied.

If Sigur Ros got booted and Nickelback got in, yeah, that would be just hilarious.

Weither or not they should get in really depenRAB on the kind of criteria being used.

Obviously it's a big FUCK NO when it comes to personal preference.

But impact and importance? I think you have a valid point, has any other band brought so many people together like they have?

a biased yes, but..
I agree with alot of what right-track said, Elliott had only been around for 10 or so years as a musician, but I can't help admiring that in that time he has given us such gems as XO, Figure 8, Either/Or..ect, and, for me at least, has about a 99.9% success rate. Also, the fact that he died in 2003 and 2 albums have been released since then is pretty respectable...and seriously, there are already 2 books about him, fans don't want to let his music die.

I'm going to add in Waltz #2 is probably the most beautiful song I have ever heard.

oh, and lol drunken xena rants.

Honestly, I'm a little confused here as well. I'm guessing some are just opening the thread, seeing a band they don't know very well, listen to a vid of a genre that they don't enjoy much, and then click no. I suppose that's totally fair if you go by the rules of the OP though. The purpose here is only to compile a list based on rab users collective tastes. It still kinda stinks to not see more discussion about the merits, or maybe lack of, for such an amazing band.

I am? Hadn't noticed.

In this case I was more annoyed with the frequent misuse of the word "fascism". People accuse everything of being fascist, but in most cases they haven't got a clue what it actually means.

Good avatar choise, BTW, that album is the shit.
