Music Banter Hall Of Fame: Nominations Thread

Well when you think about it, you should vote according to your musical tastes (at least somewhat). Take Britney Spears for instance: she was influential to alot of that mindless pop music that oh so many people seem to adore. But I think most people around here would agree that she's unbearable to listen to. Just because she was influential doesn't make her good. Now I realize that Public Enemy was/is far far far more influential to music, but the basic principal still stanRAB. I don't like Britney Spears or any of the music she spawned (whether it was/is culturally important or not), so I would vote 'no' if she were on the ballot. I don't like Public Enemy or any of that rap/hip-hop stuff out there, so I voted 'no' for them.

On second thought you're right, lets leave the element of surprise.

One more suggestion, any chance of cleaning up the thread. Deleting posts related to confusion on the nominating process.

Let me tell you why everybody should like this album:

1. It's incredibly mangled, non-melodic and angsty for a 60's band.
2. The random bursts of anarchy that the organ player throughs in really add a sense of dimentia.
3. The struggling voice of the singer coupled with the gregorian chants.
4. Can be surprisingly dark at times while retaining that classic 60's vibe.
5. The drums, very tribal. They won't get you headmoshing, but they add just the right touch.
6 The music flows on by, whether you care or not. Emotionally, you can observe it from a distance, or hop right in, it's up to you.

Perhaps the most overlooked act of the 60s.

Come on guys.

Do it for me.

I'm tempted to vote against them out of spite. But ah, Zeppelin won, I should be happy for that, so sure, why not? They only had 2 albums but they're both great and insanely influencial.

Not really seeing as though they were regularly getting hit singles 3 or 4 years before britpop broke.

And I don't know why you're so bothered about Nicky Wire's solo stuff. It only sold about 2 copies.

How will solo artists be treated with? If someone puts up a nomination for Clapton, so we consider his time with Cream, Blind Faith, Derek and the Dominos? If so, can we still nominate a band like Cream (who should get in) or Blind Faith (who shouldn't)? Or do we just vote Clapton as a solo artist only? Because that would serious hurt his chances.

The band took their pop sound too it's limit on The Great Escape, it would only make sense that they'd change their sound rather dish out another britpop album. Also If they didn't I'm sure Graham wouldve left the band sooner.

Yea everything you said is what I meant by 'extra credit'. It really doesn't matter about the politics of the situation - what you said about Kim Gordon is simply true and it makes her that much more appealing.

This is why I'm (sort of) glad I didn't grow up with the internet and access to all the free music I want. It did take years to amass them but now I've got over 1,000 of those little booklets and I treasure a lot of them.

I'm not, one of the top banRAB to create flame wars, mostly because the extreme fans/detracters seem to be idiots half the time.

I'll say yes. I know they're extremely unfashionable or whatever but then again being is cool isn't my game. One of the best mainstream acts we have without a doubt.
