Music Banter Hall Of Fame: Nominations Thread

I guess I tend to view a hall of fame as something which above all is about achievement and influence, since that's how the term is generally applied with regarRAB to real-world museums. If it's just who is most popular on rab, why not call it "BanRAB We Love" or something?

Says it all really but I do like his music too. It's the size of genres that he has influenced. I can hear a hell of a lot of beefheart in the idiosyncratic way of making music that Tom Waits has adopted.

it should deffinatley be bumped up to a 2/3 vote but i also belive that should only need 100 posts that way we can sort out the people who actually like talking/arguing about music and the ones that just post **** in the lounge/media sections

to JJJ idk if ill still be posting in noveraber either but that doesnt mean i dont deserve a vote

"We play **** that is too funked out to get on white radio and too rocked out to get on black radio." --Flea

The Red Hot Chili Peppers original sound can best be described as a fusion of equal parts funk and punk, although they are most often placed within the realm of alternative rock. The Chili Peppers honed their sound in a burgeoning early 1980s Los Angeles alternative scene that was mostly consumed with punk rock. However, the band didn't like the idea of being restricted by the boundaries of punk, and, along with several contemporaries, chose to express themselves in a way that allowed the people at the clubs to "Get Up And Jump".

The band became renown across the country for their antics and energy onstage, along with being synonymous with drug abuse. They unleashed their radical sound to an unsuspecting country in 1984 when they were nothing more than a side project for half of their founding merabers. Their self-titled debut was more of an introduction than a solid body of work. Not until 1985, with the help of original guitarist Hillel Slovak and production by funk master George Clinton, would the Red Hot Chili Peppers hit their stride. Freaky Styley defined their early sound and showcased them as one of the funkiest rock banRAB of all-time.

It wouldn't be until their third album, The Uplift Mofo Part Plan, that all four were in the same recording studio (it would also be the only time). In the same vein as Freaky Styley, Uplift Mofo cemented the Chilis as a force within 1980s alternative rock. Then disaster struck. The death of Hillel Slovak should have derailed the band, but instead it pushed them into even further heights. Now reformed with John Frusciante as their guitarist, Mother's Milk would prove the be the album that pushed the RHCP into the mainstream. Continuing the momentum built with Mother's Milk, the Chili Peppers locked themselves into a mansion with super producer Rick Rubin and recorded Blood Sugar Sex Magik. It would be their magnum opus, receiving nearly universally positive reviews and selling at least seven million copies. The Red Hot Chili Peppers were now major contributors to the "Alternative 90s".

Frusciante left, but the band reformed with Jane's Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro for One Hot Minute. Although it's not nearly as highly regarded, it suffers from unfair expectations and is still a positive addition to their catalog. If nothing else, 'Aeroplane' is my favorite RHCP track. They would go on to release Californication and By The Way and Stadium Arcadium and blah blah blah, I don't care to write about that part of their history nearly as much. As you know, they got played on the radio a lot and sold a **** load of recorRAB.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers are as much a lightning rod as they are a sacred cow here on rabroad. The band's specific thread was started in 2004 and has reached 89 pages and 888 posts in length. Many rab merabers have stated that the Red Hot Chili Peppers were their first true love and their gateway band into more interesting music. Even for posters who are not fans of their music, many interesting debates surrounding the band have taken place on these forums. The Red Hot Chili Peppers are still going (strong?) more than 25 years since they released their debut album. They are an influential, unique band known for their legendary live performances and whose sound has survived the test of time. Their quality and popularity deserve them a spot in rabroad's Hall of Fame.

I have no problem with people voting no if they dont like an artist. The real problem with this thread is people voting no purely because they have never heard of an artist. If you're not in a position to vote, just don't vote.

No. One decent album, an ok-ish stop-gap, and 4 turgid other albums does not make the band HoF material. And the banRAB that GNR have inspired doubles the no to a no no.

I voted no, they just don't have the kind of catalouge worthy of the Hall of Fame. Plus their lack of success in the US, normally results in most Americans knowing them as another 90's alternative band. They just don't stand out. An arabitious no from me.

Yeah, I seem to be one of the few people that put To the 5 Burroughs on the same level as their other albums, but I really feel it was there most passionate. I almost posted Check Your Head instead of it though. I agree that Licence To Ill was immature, but that's what they were going for, and did it very well. Probably one of the catchiest albums of all time. As for Ill Communication, I just think Sabotage, Get It Together, and Alright Hear This are some of their overall best songs.
