Music Banter Hall Of Fame: Nominations Thread

Elliott Smith didn't actually get inducted though. So really your complaint just comes down to the fact Yes didn't get nominated; which isn't surprising seeing as they've never been popular here.

I'm not gonna lie, I can't stand half of Fripp's stuff, but King Crimson completely defined a revolution in music. And they had some fantastic, seminal albums. Lizard, Red, In The Wake of Poseidon are all great.

As far as voting "no," I have to pull out two quotes from Elvis Costello, because they summarize my feelings perfectly:

"I hate people like Led Zeppelin, not because they're total charlatans and thieves, but because it actually offenRAB me...the whole crotch-thrusting element."

"There are two kinRAB of rock and roll that are artistically bankrupt to me. One's the wimpy, "fuck me, I'm sensitive" Jackson Browne school of seduction, and the other is "Look at me, I've got a hairy chest and a big willy!" Led Zeppelin type."

Apart from any idealistic offenses, I can't say that I enjoy their music. There are banRAB with poor ideas and no real merit (ELO comes to mind), but I enjoy some of their songs. I haven't heard a single Zep song that I even remotely enjoy listening to. I don't care for screechy vocals and guitar solos. The fact that their music represents a school of rock that I personally detest isn't the reason why I don't like them, but it doesn't help much either. I think the world would be better off if Stairway To Heaven was never played again, but hey, that's just me.

Arrgh yeah I have read that post and I already knew all that. I am just intrigued as to why everyone voted yes or no. I am just a bit confused as to what this is all about.

You see I thought that generally a Hall of Fame would be based on certain criteria. When I voted Yes for the Beach boys based on Influence, originality etc but was told that that was f*cked ethos by someone who wrote this

Now I have heard only about 3 Zappa albums in my life and I have read his autobiography and so therefore like to think I understand his place in musical history.

But.............. I am confused that if I vote yes it would not be a correct vote based on my limited hearing.

But................knowing that he is of Influence, has originality etc I should be voting yes

But................If I do vote yes my ethos would be.....well you know.

So do I vote no as it is, I think, a popularity contest of sorts?

Do you see my dilemma?:confused::)

I'm voting yes, mostly because these guys bring back nothing but good memories of listening to their music as a youngin'. It's the perfect road trip music really. I was always partial to "Lookin' out my Backdoor"...brings a smile to my face everytime. "Fortunate Son" is actually one of the only songs I don't like.

I don't care how you vote and you owe me no explanations. Your opinion is valid because you take the time to express it.

Still I could not relate less to your interpretation of Zeppelin's music and would guess you've never given a full album a listen, not that it would matter, but you sound like you're describing a whole other band then the one I listen to.

I think its way to early in their career for them to be inducted into the rab Hall Of Fame, they have maybe 3 songs that I like personally.
I will give credit to Flea as a good bass player & fairly good stage presence, although there are alot of other good bassist from his era that doesnt get the attention they deserve.
