Music Banter Hall of Fame: Induction Thread 3

Frank Zappa
No. Not doubting his influence, i just really dislike his music.

The Clash
Yes, one of the most innovative, experimental punk banRAB to emerge from the first wave. Their social relevance cannot be ignored either

Bob Dylan
You have to really, has made some of the greatest albums ever. Lyrically peerless.

Pink Floyd
Again, constantly pushing musical boundaries and their sheer audacity on some albums warrants their place.

Big Black
No, i love this band, but hall of fame? There were other banRAB more important to noise rock.

Tom Waits
Yes, brilliant man.

The Smiths
Yes, some of the most important british albums of the last 30 years.

Chuck Berry
Abstain.

He hasn't been around long enough to know that the Smiths and Tom Waits are the most raved about artists on this forum I would assume. Big Black is semi-understandable, seeing as I've never really heard of him before this forum.

Frank Zappa: Yes, genius, one of my favorite artists of all time.
The Clash: Yes, they're classic, you can't say no to british punk rock!
Bob Dylan: Yes, definitely.
Pink Floyd: Seeing as they're one of my most played on last.fm, and I'm a fan, do you even have to see the word yes in this post? Good, because I just posted it.
Big Black: No, only because I've never heard them.
Tom Waits: No, never heard him/them either.
The Smiths: Yes. Just because.
Chuck Berry: No, because one way or anything he's going to find his way into the next round.

There's nothing I can say that hasn't already been said.

Frank Zappa: Yes.
The Clash: Yes.
Bob Dylan: YES.
Pink Floyd: Yes.
Big Black: No.
Tom Waits: Yes.
The Smiths: Yes.
Chuck Berry: Nah.

Frank Zappa: Absolutely
The Clash: Yeah, I dig their style..
Bob Dylan: Indeed, quite an influence on alot of music
Pink Floyd: Absolutely
Big Black: Abstain
Tom Waits: Abstain
The Smiths: Abstain
Chuck Berry: Yes

Hmmm... I didn't give a single 'no' vote...

Frank Zappa
Abstain - I like him, and he's fun, but I'm just not sure. I still need to give him some more listens, I only have two albums.

The Clash
Abstain - Zero listens

Bob Dylan
Yes - It's Bob Fecking Dylan

Pink Floyd
Yes - Yes, one of the greatest acts ever.

Big Black
Abstain - Not enough listens

Tom Waits
Yes - It's Tom ****ing Waits!

The Smiths
Yes - Smiths fanboy reporting in!

Chuck Berry
No - I just don't think he has made enough good music. Influential yes, but there are a lot more things that are more influential that aren't even up for nomination.

Frank Zappa
Yes if only because he once asked why he played so many genres of music, he replied "because I can". He was scatological but backed it up with musical chops. He was intelligent and could have gone the serious music route but he understood the transient nature of fame so he decided to have a bit of fun.

The Clash
Yes and although they turned their back fairly quickly on the raw Punk sound, kudos has to be given for their determination to try different sounRAB and genres into their music.

Bob Dylan
No although a couple of his albums are really good (Highway 61 revisited), I don't listen to him enough and I hate his voice.

Pink Floyd
Yes. Do I really need to answer this?

Big Black
Yes. Sod it. I love their sound and listen to them a lot. Even if people dislike Steve Albini's production style, he went for something a little different away from the DIY garage ethic.

Tom Waits
Yes, because the more i hear of him the more I get into him and appreciate the smosgaboard of sounRAB he conjures up.

The Smiths
No. I like The Smiths but I just prefer other 80's guitar banRAB.

Chuck Berry
no. Just don't listen to him.

I didn't say that. I'm saying most of the regulars (that's the key word) prefer Syd era stuff. And If I were to make a Syd era vs Gilmour era poll I'm pretty confident Syd would win.

Gee you picked a song from the one album every meraber of the band hates and THAT'S what you use against them? So no good band is expected to have a bad song or two?

Because you have no right defending Syd Barrett of all goddamn people, or to be a White Stripes fan, because they undeniably have some awful stuff.

i don't see what the problem is with it, definitely gives noobs an introduction to what music we like here. i'm up for anything that gets people to discuss music, really.

I think the nerdrage got in the way of your logic there.

1. I don't have a right to defend him? So I did what I was allowed?

2. I don't have the right to be a white stripes fan? Why?

3. You're confusing awful with, "written in a drug fueled haze, and stupid enough when sober to think it was a ****ing song!"

Just wondering why was Big Black put on this list? Seems a little out of place as you said, but was there a specific reason? Personally I love big black, just seems a little strange.

Third one now and there were a lot of positive nominations so it's a biggy! Read below if you don't know what to do.

The nominees are:

Frank Zappa
He's God, apparantly.

The Clash
Should they stay or should they go? (Ha)

Bob Dylan
Will you leave him on Desolation Row? (Ugh)

Pink Floyd
I'VEGOTABIKEYOUCANRIDEITIFYOULIKE

Big Black
Looking distinctly out of place here.

Tom Waits
It's Tom Waits.

The Smiths
No strong opinions here.

Chuck Berry
Open your mouth baby, here it comes.

How this works:

If you have over 100 posts under your name then you can vote, feel free to voice your opinions if you have less posts though.
There won't be a poll, votes will be made publically by posting in this thread. You can vote for yes or no as many times as you want, as long as there's an explanation for your vote. If you haven't heard enough so feel you can't decide you can abstain.
So a post here would look like....

Frank Zappa: Yes, because....
The Clash: No, because....
Bob Dylan: Yes, because...
etc.

The artists that get 2/3rd Yes votes for them get in, easy as that. Those who don't get in can still be nominated at a later date.

This'll be open for a week and a half, since people seem to be confused remeraber you are voting what YOU think should be in the Hall Of Fame, not what you think others would want or whatever.

Get voting broheims.

my bad, but there ARE others on Rain Dogs that give me that eerie 'this sounRAB a bit too much like Springsteen' for my taste. towarRAB the end of the album it sort of devolves into this massive pit that it really doesn't clirab out of until the very end. to me, there's just too huge a gap between the great material on that album (Anywhere I Lay My Head is perfect) and the bad (Hang Down Your Head, Blind Love, Downtown Train).

if you don't get that impression i don't know what to tell you but i can certainly echo boobs' sentiment -- there's stuff that Waits has written that sounRAB like it's been regurgitated by the Boss. and not in a good way.
