Music Banter Hall of Fame: Induction Thread 3

I just felt like backing up my opinions. :P Being an rab favorite has always been in my criteria for who deserves to make the HOF.

Whatever then, if you insist, I will remove The Smiths.

As someone who voted no for Pink Floyd, Chuck Berry, The Beach Boys and Radiohead's entry, Im going to say no, I dont think the "Big Names" are certain shoe ins. I mean Christ Led Zeppelin are not in but Public Enemy are

It is early days with it and I've not managed to get a nomination put up yet myself, but Im sure I wont be alone in nominating an act who are obscure to many in the outside world and yet championed on this place, or even perhaps not thought of as anything at all yet.

The list is below just incase you've not seen it, but I dont think of King Crimson, Public Enemy or Tom Waits as massive names, but I do think they fit in with the opening lines explaining what this process is all about.

Led Zeppelin 20 to 7 (Eligible for renomination)
Joy Division 22 to 7 (Inducted)
Elliott Smith 16 to 13 (Eligible for renomination)
The Beatles 25 to 4 (Inducted)
King Crimson 23 to 5 (Inducted)
Wu-Tang Clan 19 to 19 (Eligible for renomination)
The Velvet Underground 28 to 4 (Inducted)
Radiohead 24 to 9 (Inducted)
The Kinks 29 to 4 (Inducted)
The Beach Boys 26 to 13 (Eligible for renominaton)
Public Enemy 24 to 16 (Inducted)
Frank Zappa 24 to 5 (Inducted)
The Clash 33 to 11 (Inducted)
Bob Dylan 33 to 3 (Inducted)
Pink Floyd 31 to 7 (Inducted)
Big Black 13 to 6 (Eligible for renominaton)
Tom Waits 25 to 4 (Inducted)
The Smiths 33 to 7 (Eligible for renominaton)
Chuck Berry 22 to 16 (Eligible for renominaton)

Failed to be nominated

Yes 15 to 19
Porcupine Tree 10 to 13
At The Drive-In 8 to 22
Public Image Ltd 11 to 21
Neutral Milk Hotel 10 to 30
Echo and the Bunnymen 14 to 16
The Mars Volta 8 to 23

Frank Zappa: Yes, one of the only people who can play for nearly 10 mins and I still enjoy it (him and James Brown really)

The Clash: I'm honestly not that big of a fan. Sorry, but no.

Bob Dylan: Yes. Highway 61 was ballsy and thats merit enough for me.

Pink Floyd: No thanks. Sorry jackhammer, but their not me.

Big Black: I'd vote yes if I'd heard more, but for now I'm abstaining.

Tom Waits: Yes.

The Smiths: I voted no previously, but I think honestly they are deserving. I'm a huge proponent of people living outside of their times. Yes/

Chuck Berry: No thanks.

I don't care if you do or don't like the premise, but I will debate the idea of them when your basis of disliking this one in particular is obviously flawed.

You vote in the poll and then in here based on your opinion. Stop being a smart arse for the sake of it :p:

Of course, it is much much easier to complain about things you don't like than contribute positively to threaRAB about things you do love without putting down other music :p:.

Either way, the way these sort of things tend to go is that the obvious ones get in first and eventually everyone starts branching out with their nominations.

But as Ive already said I dont agree with the concept of these 'Hall Of Fame' things. So no, I aint going to vote for anything as I feel it is inappropriate when I dont agree with it in the first place. I saw the list and most of the inclusions bar a few are mostly mainstream predictable entries.
Just because there are a load of Prog Rockers on here is the only reason the likes of 'King Crimson' got in ('Yes' nearly...).
The only 'Hall Of Fame' (although I hate the term) I would be interested in would be one that erabraces more styles of music other than just Rock and its subgenres. I have already previously mentioned other genres such as Jazz, Electronic,Soul,Funk, even Avant Garde stuff, which sadly went unnoticed.

Frank Zappa
Sure why not!

The Clash
The only band that matters

Bob Dylan
I have come to love his lyrics

Pink Floyd
Yes yes

Big Black
I seem to be saying yes too much

Tom Waits
it's Tom ****ing Waits!

The Smiths
My inner Morrissey fanboy is coming out.

Chuck Berry
finally, **** off berry.

But you & I know that The Smiths are a great band so does it really matter about these stupid Hall Of Fame things?

Ive not heard 'Big Black' yet but if you like them then thats all that should matter. The hall of fame is just about 'big' names & 'big' artists & are usually just based on mainstream popularity & to me the best musicians never really get the recognition that they deserve.

I noticed

I've put one nomination in which should get put up soonish, and after that when I can be bothered writing something up, my next nomination should be a bloke whose glory days were pre 1940. Both I am confident will "surprisingly" get inducted.

Instead of seeing this as a contest, which I happen to think as a negative thing also, why not see it as your chance to champion someone?

Thats all well and good, was just pointing out that it isn't based on being the best nor is it that predictable given who is missing out.

And as I said afterwarRAB, at the beginning the obvious ones get in only for it to branch out.

If you want it to branch out NOW... How about nominating someone instead of complaining?
