i done everything in the way you said but 2 things is that my pc suite wen i click on the phone in the bottom right hand corner it does'nt show file manager
so i was wondering if there is a certain type of pc suite...
and the second thing is that i got the file on to my phone and it shows up with all the other tones but the mp3 tone i put in has a key with a red line crossed over it
but the rest are just a key
PLZZZ reply

Good question. I haven't seen that problem before. What I'd suggest is uninstall the program and then reinstall it. Let the DRM make it's own folder and then work from there. There should be no problems with that. It might take you a while to find your new mp3 but it should be ok. Sorry it took a while to return message, take ONE little sleeping pill to help you sleep and knocks you on your ass for hours!!! LOL

Let me know if this worked.

Hi Dalton, I had the same problem as one of the previous posts (the DRM can't create a subfolder and that there is an error that occured when i was saving the files) i took your suggestion and uninstalled and installed the program again, but that problem is still there and i don't know what i should do! please help! thanks!

It means your not doing it right. Try again. I just followed my easy to follow instructions and it worked like a charm. I've helped over 20 people (friends) who have the same phone and everything worked perfect for them too.

The red line means it's still blocked by copyright. Try again.

So now I know what you mean (I just got a new vista computer)
Open PC Suite. On the left (Under editors) is an option for Files. Drag the dm or .thm to a blank space on the right where the two folders should be, and your phone should pop up the message.

Hey Dalton!! I've tried other ppls instructions on the ringtone thing at other forums and none of them were as clear and wonderful as yours!! Thank you for sharing!!! =D

It took me awhile but I figured out how to get my mp3's loaded to my w580i. Follow Daltons instructions to step 5 and I'll edit a bit after that point.

Note..download and install "MyphoneExplorer" I got version 1.7.2

Adding new file to your phone

1. Plug in your W580i . IMPORTANT: Choose Phone Mode
2. Open MyPhoneExplorer. You should see Contacts, Calls, Organizer, Messages, Files and other Click on Files Note:it will ask you to sync if its your first time running the program
6. Now take the file you created, the one with the DM extension and drag it to the white empty box under Memory Stick and Phone memory.
7. Check your phone. It will have a pop up saying "Saved in Music on Memory Stick. Use now?" ,click yes to install it into the Music folder.
After that another pop up will come up asking you how to use it. In the list of options, choose "Ring tone" and you are done!

Thanks to Dalton

um, i am stuck at Step 5, #2.
when i click on my start menu, then on Sony Ericsson, i can't find the SONY ERICSSON PC SUITE!

so my question is, in total do i have to install 2 programs or only the program Sony Ericsson Digital Rights Management Packager?
because i only installed the Sony Ericsson Digital Rights Management packager!

Thnx for your help!

Hi, I'm on Vista 64-bit, tried your instructions, downloaded the software, installed fine, works fine, step by step works great (although the PC Suite 3.2 must have a different interface or i'm reading it wrong, cause it doesn't have the same "right-click" menu, so that slowed me down, but i got there), so end of story... worked great. this was on W380a phone on Fido which we got yesterday, and found out today that even when I download from Sony Ericsson I couldn't use ringtone! so, Thanks, works great on Vista. I even converted a m4a song to mp3 (in Adobe Soundbooth) and then used your instructions. Worked great.

You are truly awesome! My ringtones work great and I just want to thank you! But I was just curious, will this affect my phone, like mess it up and break it down or anything?

Hello thanks for these pictures. I have done all this and it says cannot be used as a ringtone? no idea what was done wrong. tried to uninstall and install software so many times. no clue. thanks

Written in a very methodical, very clear, according to the steps you can learn step by step, helped me a lot

Yep works excellent, just modify the length of any mp3 and the clip will be recognized as a ring tone with the sony ericcsons.

Hi there. I must be a moron of epic proportions. I've followed your directions, to the letter, have even had to uninstall and reinstall. I'm getting another message similar to another member, couldn't make the file in the original file (don't have the screen up, so I can't remember word for word), but I've now been at this for almost 2 hrs and I'm ready to pull my hair out. You've obviously been successful with this method, so I'm not doubting you, but OMG, PM me or something, or did you do that YOUTUBE thing for idiots like me?
So tired, so tired
I'm usually really good at this stuff, maybe I'm getting too old... :(
I chose uncheck for placing rights in separate folder and left the output alone, figuring if I went about changing stuff I'd only bugger it up, but it says it cant put in the original file still. I'm unable to create DMR altogether
I'm getting mad!!! :flamemad:
I'm also with Rogers, only had the phone 2 days so far haha
Help?
Dina

You have to install the software that came with the phone as well. If you can't find the disc, you can download it here-
