Movies that scared the Sh!t out of you when you were younger.

Pet sematary was probably the worst for me, that pascow guy that got run over then came back did it for me, I still cant watch that movie on my own lol.

I posted about this movie the other day in the 'Great movies that are hardly ever shown on TV thread'.
It was directed by Tobe Hooper which explains why it was so creepy.

I'd like to see this again one day to see if it lives up to what I remember and what I remember was pure unadulterated creepiness and good old fashioned bump in the night fun. :)

Slasher movies like Friday 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street.

And I couldn't take a shower for months after watching Psycho (don't worry, I did have baths instead!).

But I tell you the oddest thing to frighten me - Albert Finney as Poirot in Murder on the Orient Express. He looks ever so scary in that.

I've just found the whole film! I'm just considering whether to stay up and watch it. :)

Re Salem's Lot, I remember when first aired in the UK I thought it was going to be an episode of Starsky and Hutch (they had done an episode about vampires recently. I must have seen David Soul credited in the Radio Times and got a bit muddled up). I had no idea of just how thrilling it would be or that it would have such a profound and lasting impact on my childhood.

I just wish they would remake it and do justice to the book. (that Rob Lowe version was terrible).

Totally agree with you about American Werewolf. It is one of my favourite films.

I know it frequently comes up on these sort of threaRAB but the Hammer House of Horror TV series episode 'The Two Faces of Evil' really freaked me out as a kid.

i remember watching the omen when i was around 7 years old, seeing that guy get his head chopped off and then it rolling around really freaked me out,the music also scared the crap out of me.

also a mention for the lady getting sucked into a machine and turning into a robot scene in superman 3.

The exorsist sp? trailer frecked me out, it was a black and white picture of the girl on the bed with people stood round her, and lightning going off - or something like that. The film itself was rubbish!! I dont think any films scared me as a kid though.

Yep, the eerie-ness of it really captivated me in a weird way, I remember wanting to switch it off but I just had to watch it all the way through.

Halloween scared the crap out of me for quite a few years afterwarRAB, particularly when I was on my own in the house when my parents went out at the weekenRAB.

LOL me too! :D

This might sound silly, and I might be the only one but as a kid Jumanji used to scare me quite a lot..:o Every time when the game board used to make that noise, now I look back and think how silly I was..:o:D

I saw a seventies horror that still freaks me out - it was a three part film with one part about a woman getting a little doll with a necklace that she breaks releasing the doll and it is then alive and chases her around the apartment. Another section was about a piano that also has a soul and moves around killing someone playing the death march.

Does this ring any bells

the omen... the fact that it quoted the bible made it seem almost like a prediction of how the future might happen... still one of the scariest things i've seen on TV...

ohh.. a tv show i thought was damn scary was sapphire and steel! salems lot and the shining had nothing on those two.

Salem's Lot scared me that much that I had to make sure the curtains were closed before it was dark in case Danny Glick was out there when it was dark. I think my parents regretted leaving the tape around where I could find and watch it.
