Movies that scared the Sh!t out of you when you were younger.

I remember particularly having nightmares/sleepless nights about Hellraiser 3, Terminator 2 and Poltergeist.

Armchair Thriller's opening sequence is absolutely terrifying, even now and to think they used to put this on in the afternoon straight after Crown Court (IIRC).

Gotta say, my deep rooted fear of poodles is due to that show. :o

Also remember being scared of Plague of the Zombies and The Reptile.

A TV movie called Dead of Night, which was a portmanteau of three stories. The last story, "Bobby" gave me nightmares for weeks.

Also "Trilogy of Terror", with Karen Black and "Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark" was another TV movie that scared the crap out of me.

Armchair Thriller Quiet as a Nun scared the bejesus out of me

Also, Whistle and I'll Come to You

I suppose my films list would be:

Jaws
An American Werewolf in London (especially when he turns the mirror in the bathroom and sees his dead friend)
The House that Bled to Death (Hammer House of Horror)

I've mentioned most of these before but films that scared me as a kid...

Sssssss (1973) silly film about Dirk Benedict turning into a giant snake, still a bit creepy though.

It's Alive (1974) silly film about killer babies, it's also still pretty creepy.

Salem's Lot (1979) more creepy kiRAB, still scares the bejessus out of me.

Dead of Night (1977) even more creepy kiRAB! Well, just the one, 'Bobby'. revisited it on youtube recently, yep, still had me nearly wetting the bed 30 years after I'd first seen it.

An American Werewolf in London
one of my all time favourite films, scared me senseless as a kid, still can't look at the dream sequence of him lying in bed. Sister's boyfriend once set it as my screensaver...ha, ha very funny.:D:cry::D

Someone mentioned something about a scary doll film from the 70's. Was this the film about a possessed porcelain doll that came to life and killed people? If so, yep, scared me too. Saw it a few years ago, silly film but creepy.

Not seen the film, but then I guess many on here haven't either but used to have a book with a photo of Lon Chaney in from London After Midnight. Off the scales in regarRAB to creepyness.

I have never trusted clowns ever since I thought a dwarf one was coming too get me in the 70's. He was pointing at me through the tv camera - scared the bajesus out of me and I went running to my mum , who told me to stop being silly

The 80's chiller/horror "The Changeling" starring George C Scott scared the bejesus out of me when I saw it as a kid.

Also in the late 70's/early 80's ITV showed Tales of the Unexpected and Armchair Thriller both were top quality Nightmare Fuel.

The man obsessed with feeding his baby "Royal Jelly" on TotU really freaked me out...

And the least said about the faceless nun on AT the better, quite frankly :(

Does anyone remember a movie about a bunch of old guys who are getting bumped off by the ghost of a woman they accidently murdered when they were young? It was called 'Ghost Story" and it even had a dirty bit in it! We used to giggle at that bit.

I have this vague recolection of horror movies being shown on Friday nights and the introduction every week being a house on a hill with thunder and lightening and the most earie music I've ever heard.

I was usually behind the couch before the movie had even started.

I had a similar experience with 'Bobby'. Terrified me at the time! Hardly anyone I talk to remembers this film. I wonder how it would hold up today.

Edit - just seen Lexie's post. I'll have to have a little wander over to youtube...

Oh yes, that moment creeped me out aswell.
I couldn't get over the fact that she was actually running away from the computer and it managed to suck her back in.
When her eyes changed emotionlessly blank, I was like -

You think that's bad. My auntie only knew somebody in the special effect department at the BBC who had the stupidity to give my cousin a full size dalek replica.

I was terrified of walking through the front door.

They had to lock it away when I arrived.

My parents rather stupidly let me watch the Texas Chainsaw Massacre back in the heady days before the Video Recordings Act at the age of 7.

The Evil Dead (censored version) put the wind up me some years later.

On TV, Twin Peaks used to regularly scare me senseless, and for no real reason looking back on it. I remember the scariest thing was the Log Lady describing the night of Laura Palmer's disappearance and Bob climbing over the furniture.

But the scariest thing I ever saw as a kid was this episode of Tales of the Unexpected (Part 1, part 2, part 3). For years afterwarRAB I imagined she escaped, but I doubt she did.

when i was about 9/10 years old, my mum let me watch 'an american werewolf in london' the bit that gave me nightmares for months was the dream sequence were the nazi wolves killed his family. when i see the film now (im 32) that scene still makes me wince for what it did to me back then.

personally, I like the idea of film makers returning to the 70's idea of horror, ie. coving a kid in greasepaint, slapping some dodgy contact lens in him and some scary false teeth - that would still spook me out but I doubt it would generate much fear in most audiences today.
When I watched that clip of 'Bobby' with my younger sister, she was somewhat bemused that it had the power to reduce me to a quivering wreck, she just didn't find it scary at all.
Salem's Lot scares her real good though. :p

by the way, did you find that clip? did it scare you?
