Movies That Blew You Away...

Many thanks Numpty Dumpty

Have searched on play.com over the years and could never find it.

Many thanks again

:)

Edit: Have just ordered it for him - cheers. :)

For me I'd say :

King Kong (2005)
The Usual Suspects
Jason's Lyric (I don't know why, its not that great but at the time it did!)
Two Brothers
City of God
Bus 174

It's a Russian film based on a boy's experiences in WW2. Idi et Smotri in Russian. It's by far the most powerful film I've ever seen.

Titanic - The sinking in particular is awesome. Sadly it has become unfashionable to like it, but I don't honestly give what over people think. If I like a film, I like it. :)
Eternal Sunhine of the Spotless Mind - Will be around for years and become a utter gem
Vera Drake - Did well in handling a sensitive issue
Donnie Darko - A excellent plotline

Sure I'll think of more as soon as I post this...

The Matrix (mainly the first one, but I loved all three)
The Shawshank Redemption
Citizen Kane
Gregory's Girl (my favourite film! :) )
The Wicker Man
Aliens
Blade Runner
The Thing
Memento
This Is Spinal Tap / Best In Show (love them both equally)
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (really surprised me)
Brazil

There have got to be more... think a look at my DVD shelf is called for.

Ok, blown away is probably a slight overstatement, but as it's on at the moment and I love this film, I would have to say American Beauty. It's on BBC1 right now, and even though I've seen it loaRAB of times, I have to say this is a fantastic movie.

I like it so much because of all the things it doesn't say or deal with. *sigh* I've told so many of my frienRAB to watch it, but a lot say they can't get into it. If I was asked to name a film that represents 'life in general' it would have to be this.

Damn, what goes on behind closed doors eh. Those white picket fenced houses in surburbia hiding everything that is so sick and wrong and steeped in hatred this world has become. Hypocrisy, lies, pretence, phobias, prejudice, hatred, homophobia, class systems..... Love it! This is not to mention the great cast and the perfect way this story is told.

Seriously, this film is frighteningly good....

Reservoir Dogs - saw it in a tiny cinema (real fleapit) blew me away
Blade Runner
Monty Python and the Holy Grail (the only film I've actually seen four times in the cinema)
Old Boy
Kill Bill
Fargo
and that really old masterpiece (not the god awful remake)The LadyKillers
Yes I am old ! Though I didnt see the last one in the cinema as it's older than me

Poo! I forgot to include Crouching Tiger looks good on DVD but was absolutely stunning on the big cinema screen

(just watched it, and I must say Charlize Theron deserved her oscar nod for this) - North Country

I must say also that it made a lump in my throat, very tear-jerking, hard-hitting stuff :o

I highly recommed North Country if your looking for a movie with a high impact.

Totally agree with those three. It is a shame people slag Titanic off so much now, but sadly that negative backlash always seems to happen when something is such a massive success.

Amelie is also a gorgeous film. One of the best films I've seen. If you need cheering up then just watch that! :)
