Movies That Blew You Away...

Did you actually like the film of Dune? I saw it after reading the book and was quite disappointed.

Last Emporer is a fantastic film though.

The Revengers Tragedy

28 Days Later (visions of empty London & the empty motorway - v. chilling, and the infected were gross)

Gladiator (loved it!!)

'The Notebook' really restored my faith in a good love story, there are just so many bad, cheesy ones out there. but that film is fantastic.

It must have been in my own head when I wrote that post! On second thoughts it wasn't that mind blowing so I've edited my post in a most cowardly manner.

I saw the film first, and while it wasn't a patch on the book when I came to read it there were some great moments in it. I remember Paul's speech to his mother when they're on the desert having escaped the Harkonnens, that was great. I can understand why people who'd read the book first would be disappointed by the film. As an interpretation of the book it's deeply flawed with many things left obscure. Take the moment when Paul drinks the water of life, the film gives no idea what happens other than a sort of transformation has taken place.

All the performances apart from Maclachlen are lacklustre, and the less said about the special effects the better, but for it's (admittedly few) great moments I included it my list.

The Exorcist

The Blair Witch Project

Hallow Man

Speed & Speed 2

The Matrix

Demons & Demons 2

Alien & Aliens

Fright Night & Part 2

The Devils Advocate & The Goodfellas

:)

Don't beat me up about this...

Titanic

I don't know what about this film makes me so emotional

I know it's not it's not the most highbrow film in the world. For me, it works

For me and my future husband at the time two films that really stand out for us are:

Mississippi Burning and
Empire of the Sun

Have been trying to find the latter on dvd but can only find it on region 1 and not region 2 which is a pi$$er as only have a region 2 dvd player.

:)

Its not only Hollywood who make films you know.

sad to see that only one other post mentions what is probably the best film ever made..........see it if you dont believe me

OLDBOY

Strange that many mention crouching tiger....but no one mentions HERO. Every frame in that film is a work of art. See it if you dont believe me

And what no mention of

Khamosh Paani (silent waters)
The Apu trilogy
Salaam Bombay
