after i moved back to arizona from texas, leaving my daughter behind with her mother, i went around for about 4 months in a fog. i'd call and talk to my kid every weekend, work, and sit in my apartment and do nothing (i had no tv). then one night, riding my bicycle home from work, i got hit by a car. Twisted my bike, banged me up but thankfully didn't break anything, and the guy took off. (he came out of a parking lot without looking and ran into me). In that instant, i seemed to wake up. I think it was the shock of "oh hell, i just got hit by a car again".
Now i'm not saying to go out and get hit by a car, but sometimes a shock is what's needed to break through the funk and haze that seems to have us enveloped. Maybe try to overcome a phobia. Or just jump in your car one weekend (or days off, wheneveR) and just drive. I used to drive til i was almost out of gas, then fill up and head home. Try to outrun the fog. Something needs to change.
