most upsetting scene in a movie

You mean Funny Games - watched it last week and had to post on here that its the most disturbing film I have seen I think - can't stop thinking about it!

I couldn't finish watching Funny Games. I wanted to, but I just couln't take it. Even now, I get flashbacks from the film, it was the most disturbing film I ever (didn't) see! I agree with you about Come and See, but that was more gruelling to watch than disturbing, in much the same way as Schindler's list. Yes, gruelling to watch rather that frankly upsetting, like Funny Games.

Funny Games - I think it is an excellent film but is very disturbing, even though most of the 'violence' takes place off-screen.

I Spit On Your Grave - pretty much the entire film

Parts of Straw Dogs. There was a lot of controversy over the rape scene - resulting in it being banned, though it is now available again. Interestingly, apparently the rape scene was a 'problem' as she seemed to be enjoying it - I read somewhere though that when it was originally submitted for classification the censors asked for the rape scene to be pared down and the new version (that was in the film that was released) actually appeared more disturbing than the original because of the way that it was cut. Which led to the ban. I'm not sure if that is true or not though.

I have to say I find any films with rape scenes hard to stomach and also psychological torture. Gore doesn't really bother me though...

Many of mine have already been mentioned. I can take blood, gore, exploding heaRAB and extreme violence as long as it's not too realistic. When it gets believable or emotional, as it does in the Green Mile and American History X I can fall apart.

I know it's not fashionable to admit it these days, but the final scene in the Blair Witch Project upset me so much the first time I saw it that I couldn't get that image
of the guy facing the wall
out of my head for days.

I found quite a lot of Sin City upsetting. I know the cartoon like premise is supposed to take away from the extreme violence but it was just that bit too much for me.

I also found Fahrenheit 9/11 extremely distressing to the point it actually took my breath away. That was the most extreme reaction I've ever had to a film. I know there are a lot of people who don't agree with Michael Moore's views but you can't take away from the scenes in Iraq.

Grave of the Fireflies, where
Seita cremates Setsuko, and the narrative says that he put her ashes in the tin of fruit drops and left. That... got to me.

Agreed on those who say Irreversible. I'm not easily shocked, but that was one film that I found seriously disturbing to watch.

A few people have mentioned the truly bonkers Ichi the Killer, but no one's mentioned another of Takashi Miike's other films, Visitor Q, which is possibly even more bonkers. Amazingly available uncut over here, unlike Ichi the Killer which is cut to pieces.

Was hugely disappointed with another film that a few people have mentioned - Wolf Creek. Read all the reviews saying how horrific it was and must say it left me unmoved & completely unfrightened.

Should also mention the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre - the sorta film you need to have a shower after watching, being so grimy in atmosphere. Strangely, THE moment for me in that film is when Leatherface slams the sliding door open. Not horrific in itself, but you just know something pretty terrible's about to happen.

I thought that when I read American Pyscho - it's so difficult to read some of the torture scenes.

With regarRAB to film - already been mentioned but they guy biting the kurb in American History X..yikes!

Green Mile - I bawled my eyes out at John Coffy being executed.

The Shawshank Redemption - Bawled almost all the way through.

Platoon
- The scene where the soliders are going up in the helicopter they see that one of there frienRAB is still alive and is running from the enemies... they watch helplessly as he is shot to death.

Colour Purple - Gets me every time that film.

Sleepers - Yep very upsetting film agreed.
