Most Underrated/Overrated Artists

Yeah. Both of those albums piss all over The Final Cut.

Man. From The Wall to The Final Cut, talk about a ridiculously huge plumet in quality. People who say The Wall is a Waters solo album are wrong, it isn't, Gilmour's presence is felt throughout. Gilmour is barely in The Final Cut, this album should have just been a bunch of angsty poems because that's really all it is, Waters stopped giving a damn about the musical aspect completely. I loved Waters vocals on Animals and The Wall but here he's so overbearingly mopey and I'm not even sure what the hell he's ranting about, and there's no Gilmour to provide any contrast, and not a single melody to be heard. It isn't terrible, but there's really no reason to listen to it, ever.

Well my feelings about Modest Mouse are well known. As for Yes, I think they are only underrated by people who underrate prog in general. Close to the Edge is the 68th highest rated album on Rate Your Music so they're not that underrated. ;)

But you're totally right regarding Incubus, XTC and Gentle Giant.

^ Really???

I may just be speaking in terms of people around my area who have come into my acquaintance with the Talking HeaRAB thing - most of them think they're nothing but a goofy, novelty type act. Any time I mention them, people say things like, "That one song by them...Psycho Killer...is hilarious! They're really funny! They remind me of...(insert novelty act here)."

It's most disheartening.

charlie boy is pretty new but I luv the flavor he brings hopefully soon he'll get his props
UGK- should be inspiration for anyone who doesn't want a record deal!!!

Just in case if you didn't know, there is more than one kind of post rock, so it's hard to call all banRAB in this genre samey because it's so varied.

The more electronic kind;
Battles, Maserati and God Is An Astronaut fit here

The more "Classical Music Made With Guitars" kind that most of us stereotype post-rock as
(The above song is my favourite EITS song, BTW)
Mono, GY!BE, and sometimes Mogwai fit here

The post rock that doesn't fit into the two categories above, but is still post-rock
Don Caballero, Tortoise, and Slint fit here.

The post rock that is quite heavy, but isn't quite metal yet.
Russian Circles, Red Sparowes and And So I Watch You From Afar fit here.

sorry about this post, folks. I thought that it needed explanation!

As my highest-played and favorite band, I feel like I'm obligated to stick Brand New under the "most underrated" section of this thread. I would admit that they'd be rather ordinary if it wasn't for Lacey's brilliant lyrics. They're one of the few modern artists who've mastered Emo without sounding like the popularized overdramatic retarRAB who pollute the genre. I've also got to credit them for the remarkable evolution from their first album to their second. Deja Entendu is one of my top albums ever.

Agreed. Also, In the aeroplane over the sea is pretty overrated. On Avery Island is just as good, if not better.

I still Love Neutral Milk Hotel though

I've met Wayne twice and he's actually a really cool guy. Is it the hair that makes you think he's a douche? Cause it just makes me want a slim jim.
Anyway, V & F, check out this one. If you don't like this, you've no chance to ever find any enjoyment in Static-X.

Nope, I haven't heard them. I had a look there though and found a link to one of their albums, downloading it now and I'll check it out over the next couple of days.
