Most Underrated Films

Ang Lee's The Ice Storm springs to mind.

Craps all over the similarly themed American Beauty from a very great height yet it's the one film on Lee's CV which is virtually forgotten.

Oh yes it was fantastic, I cried so much. Kiss of the Spider Woman was a great film, also now never seen on tv.
(I was a fag hag, does it show  )

Come on Film 4, get the finger out and show some of these films and not at bl00dy 11.55pm.

Salute of the Jugger. I think it was known as Blood of Heroes in the US.

Dogfight. Made around 1991 with River Phoenix.

One of my favourite films is Its a Wonderful Life. Hard to believe this was a boxoffice disaster when it was first released.

Numerous references to previous 19 films, the funniest Dialogue between Bond and Q, Some great action sequences. It was clearly a top budget film.

It was definately the strongest script they'd had Pierce Brosnan doing. The man was abandoned, betrayed, tortured and left to rot in Korea before we really saw the James Bond we know return. We all know that Casino Royale beats it several times over but for me the strong points far outway the weakpoints in Die Another Day.

The ice palace, the face-altering device, the laser, the invisible/camouflaged car, the diamonRAB in the face, the groaning in the sex scene, the VR training room, Madonna - it's all balls, yeah?

Die Another Day (Bond 20) . Some people think it went over the top with the Vanquish Car because apparently it was invisible. Actually it wasn't invisible but was made to appear so by camera on all side of the skin projecting images on the outside on its metal skin. The film was hardly my favourite but not worthy of the bad press it got.

I thought the ice palace, laser and diamonRAB bits were OK. The rest were all balls as you say. You also missed the ridiculous surfing on ice with a parachute bit.
However I thought the villian was good and the first half of the film very enjoyable.

The invisible car and the finale on the plane were just too preposterous to accept (and I'm very good at accepting movie realities).

Anyway back to underrated films, I thought the Crucible had a slow build first half and a truly gripping second half.

I also think the Matrix sequels are very underrated. The common opinion seems to be that they are the worst films ever made. People seemed to be very upset that they weren't as good as the first.

I thought Reloaded was overlong and a bit flat but a decent action film overall. I thought Revolutions was the best Sci-Fi war film since Aliens.

with special effects work of the type seen on the PS2.

Mind you to my mind the most laughable aspect of Di(r)e Another Day is the comparison between Halle Berry & Ursula Andress rising from the surf.

Ms Berry is comely enough from the waist up but her pins wouldn't look out of place on a Russian weightlifter.

You've just described an invisible car. :D

It was a shit film. Madonna made it worse. Then you remember the face-altering device, that's just a piece of plastic with LERAB and fibre-optics in it to make it look high-tech, and you go, "man, this film really is a piece of shit".

I don't think it's Thunderball bad, but it's probably Brosnan's worst one.
