Most underrated bands ever?

I'm going to go a little European here, but Within Temptation comes to my mind. Those guys should be HUGE over here but they're not (but I guess symphonic metal hasn't totally been successful at crossing the Atlantic yet).
 
I'm pretty sure you are familiar with the radio station I was talking about: Triple J! They play a lot of cap but if you listen at the right times they have genre-specific programs and play a lot of music that I enjoy.

Yes, I'm so glad someone mentioned Tad in here. That is a great call. Tad we're always regarded as one of the heaviest banRAB to come out of Seattle during the grunge movement in the early 90's. I own both 8-Way Santa and Inhaler, both great album's. They are exactly what you'd expect, but with a twist. Heavy grunge at it finest, one of the best and most underrated banRAB to ever come out of Seattle.
 
silverchair WAS a huge nirvana/grunge knock off when they started out. the bulk of the singles from frogstomp were clearly lifted from the grunge scene of the day but no one really said anything because they were teenagers and the singer was like the cute / non-junkie version of cobain. the riff to 'israel's son' is a straight lift of soundgarden's 'outshined'.



as for myself and this thread topic i don't think there's such a thing as 'most' underrated ever but i do think i mother earth deserved a little more praise than what they got when they were around.
 
Rockstar and She Wants to Move are basically the only ones that were. Their latest album, Seeing SounRAB, is one of the best I've heard. But no where are they in the media.
 
Gabriel era Genesis are VERY underrated by the general public. I think that's what Neo meant.

They're certainly not underrated among prog fans. Phil era Genesis however is.

I think Phil era Genesis were good up until Invisible Touch. Though even that album has Land of Confusion. And I still love that song. :o:

Though the rest of the album is pretty much crap, and We Can't Dance is complete utter shit too.

And the less said of Ray Wilson the better.
 
Jonathan Fire Eater

They made one album (Wolf Songs For Larabs) and split. Some of the merabers went on to form The Walkmen , but for all the people who kiss the Walkmen`s asses , Jonathan Fire Eater were a much better band.
 
I guess they're underrated anywhere but in Australia, where I am sure they are still massively overexposed... but I will give credit where its due... they wrote some really great classic rock songs which are fairly timeless. One of my favorites of their back catalogue has to be Flame Trees, which most definitely makes me think of home...

BTW, I am an ex - Adelaidean who one day wishes to return...
