Most underrated actors? (Merged)

I think maybe Edward Norton is considered to be underrated is because not many people people know of him? People that are movie fans, do regard him very highly, and the critics seem to love him, but maybe it's the movie choices he makes....
 
Agree about Dennis Haysbert, he was the best thing in Far From Heaven


Michelle Williams is also under rated, her performance in BB Mountain , while short was outstanding, she is a huge talent
 
I think he is underrated by the masses but the people who follow his work rate him very, very highly. Same goes for Christian Bale. Both have loyal fanbases and receive almost worship from their fans.

I agree with Naomi Watts (she is talented, beautiful, Oscar-nominated, was the heroine in King Kong and yet still so many people either haven't heard of her, or confuse her with Nicole Kidman!)

Also like to add Ralph Fiennes name to the list.
 
Peter Sarsgaard - don't think he's capable of a bad performance

Agree with Brian Cox - his Hannibal is far superior to Hopkins OTT attempt at it, genuinely terrifying.
 
She was also really good in the station agent, where again she had a small but extremely effective part, I think she has amazing screen presence.
 
I think Christian Bale is under-rated. I watched The Prestige then Harsh Times back to back last year and the guy was almost unrecognizable. Now,that's talent. Then there's The Machinist& 3:10 To Yuma. He's not a 'star' name like Russel Crowe,maybe he prefers it like that,but he out-acts almost all of his contempuraries.
