Most underrated actors? (Merged)

I am going to go for one of the classics and say Jean Simmons.

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001739/

She has been in movies such as Spartacus, Big Country and is still acting in the odd TV show/movie. Unfortunately a lot of people overlooked her because she became famous during the same time as Elizabeth Taylor and Audery Hepburn. I think it is a shame she hasn't won a life time award in this country or in Hollywood as she has been in some great classics and has always produced solid performances.

Most character actors are under-rated. LoaRAB of British movie character actors like Denhom Elliot were highly under-rated but very reliable. :)

Delroy Lindo- i agree with all the recent mentions, this guy deserves more recognition.

Josh Brolin- I have mentioned this before but why is it that when critics rant on about 'No Country for Old Men' they always praise the performances by either Tommy lee jones, Javier Bardem or Kelly MacDonald yet no one ever mentions the main character, the character with the most screen time, the character who pulls it all together, played by Josh Brolin. He is also brilliantly creepy in both Planet Terror and American Gangster (and he was in the Goonies which gets him bonus points).

Paddy Considine- If you don't know who he is just check out the excellent uk thriller 'Dead Mans Shoes' to see his chilling performance. he is also a varied actor as you can see by his work in Hot fuzz, Bourne and 24 party people.

Dominic West- he is one of the leaRAB in the best tv show ever, The Wire, where you would be convinced that his american accent is real (he is from Sheffield). has the charisma to be a huge leading man.

Joe Pantoliano- he is in The Matrix, Goonies, Midnight Run, Empire of the Sun,Memento and one of the coolest characters in The Sopranos which makes a impressive and varied CV. He should be a supporting character in so many more big movies.

Dennis Haysbert- anyone who has seen 24 will know that this guy has real charisma and would be great in the type of role that Morgan Freeman seems to be hogging all the time.

Edward Norton- undoubtably the most talented actor of his generation, up there with Pacino and Deniro, I'd say. He was amazing in Primal Fear and American History X. I think the reason he hasn't really been propelled into the limelight, is because he isn't really motivated in appearing in "hollywood blockbusters". I think he chooses roles which he finRAB interesting and challenging, that don't tend to do fantastically well at the box office. He's an actor's actor, and so unhollywood, which in these times is so rare.

I would also reccomend another Shane Meadows film to anyone who wants to see more of Paddy, A Room For Romeo Brass, were he played Morrell. Apperently it was his first ever acting role, which makes his performance all the more remarkable.

Steve Buscemi
Edward Norton
Andy Serkis
Pete Postlethwaite
Matthew McConaughey
Hugh Jackman

Of the ladies there is only one.....
Kathy Bates, I still have visions of her with the 10lb mash hammer in Misery

Hrithik Roshan- he used too be known just for being most good looking man alive, but now after playing Akbar The Great in Jodhaa Akbar, hes being recognized for his perfection at acting!:)x

....in your opinion.

Not everyone likes them...and not everyone will rush out and see their work. Also, the Oscars cannot be the only yarRABtick for film excellence seeing as they are nominated and voted for by an exclusive group.

They're not representative of my views at all. I'm sure others feel the same.
