Most Overrated Films

It's the first Tim Burton film I saw that I actually felt was magical. I really liked it.
 
1. Silence of the Lambs - a good film but not great and inferior to Manhunter. Lecter is played brilliantly as a camp cemdy villain by Anthony Hopkins, if you want chilling then watch Brian Cox in manhunter.
2. Broken Flowers - the film that gives Art House a bad name. pretentious, dull and self indulgent.
 
I found "No Country For Old Men" to be overrated.Personally speaking I didn't see what the all the fuss was about.

"Hostel" was another film i thought was overrated.Althought i did find "Hostel 2" to be better.

I love both those films. I can understand how some people don't like Lost In Translation. I'm not one of them.

American Beauty is proper bo. Spacey is the dog's.



Not seen Broken Flowers, but that's because it looked shit. Silence of the Lambs is great, but I've not seen Manhunter. Funnily enough, though, you're certainly not the first person to say that Manhunter is better.

I think the most overhyped film that could never match expectations is SW ep1 The Phantom Menace, which is a shame as it is quite a good opener for the prequels , yeah the dialogues dire & George Lucas couldnt direct traffic , but its good fun.

I know some people who actually thought BWP was real, must have been scary as **** for them, wish I was that nieve :(

Last five minutes were good though.

The thing that baffles me about American Beauty is that Kevin Spacey plays a fairly loathsome individual who is a borderline paedo.

Yet he's treated as a sympathetic character we're supposed to feel sorry for.

I'm sure the only reason that flick won Oscars is because of the cinematography.
 
Didn't people leave the Cannes preview shaking with fear and such (plants presumably)?

They must have been related to the people who fainted when watching The Exorcist in the 70's. I watched that when I was 12 and thought it was hilarious. Our first video on our new suitcase VCR as I remember.

You're not alone with Citizen Kane. A lot of people find it boring. I suppose the storyline is not the thing people value.

...and Moulin Rouge is toss.



No Country was good, but had a shit ending.

I thought Hostel was the best gore film I'd seen in years.



I'm not on the Kane Train, but yeah, Woody Allen sucks balls.

I also bought Grave Of The Fireflies based on everyone's recommendation and I thought it was boring.
 
Citizen Kane & Titanic.

Overrated as hell. They are both ok films but they don't deserve so much praise, especially Citizen Kane as it usually ranks high up in many movie lists for some unkown reasons to me.
 
:) I know it's not a popular opinion to hold, but everytime I've forced myself to sit down and watch that film I've been bored rigid. I have to say though it's not the only film ever that's sent me to sleep though ;)
 
When they got in the house was the only part that got remotely edgy, the rest of the time I couldn't really work out what was happening as it was just someone running holding the camera. I was expecting a real chiller because of all the hype and it was so lame. Even the end, after it did get a bit tense in the house, they still managed to blow it with an ending that revealed precisely nothing.
