Most over-rated films

Being John Malkovich. I bought the DVD without having seen it just because I'd heard so many good things and because it sounded like exactly the sort of film I'd like. I was wrong.

Didn't think much of Gladiator, and Blade Runner is okay, but not deserved of it's reputation as one of the greatest ever sci fi films. Pulp Fiction is pretty overrated IMO.

AI has to be the worse film I've ever seen in my life.

Edit: oh yeah - I watched 4 weddings when it was first on TV. Slightly amusing in places, but not the film everybody suggested it was.

Forgot to mention 'The Full Monty'

I watched it thinking it was supposed to be the funniest film ever. Not so I'm afraid, very disappointing.

In fact the scene in the bank (I think its the bank when they start to dance) has been played to death and is now very irritating.

Blimey theres so so many I dont know where to start!

Grease always did it for me and I qeued for 3 hours to watch it as well!

And I really thought Collatral was massivley overated I hated the ending on the train just hated it! (and im a huge MM fan)

I didnt think there was much hype... all I heard was bad reviews so I went because of that and I liked it.

Not in a life-affirming 'i know this is a classic' type way, but its fun to be entertained.

Overrated:
Mystic River. Maybe. I'll have to watch it again.

The Matrix Sequels. I loved the first film, 2nd was OK but disappointing and the 3rd was the worst.

I had such high hopes and had waited for so long!

I know what you mean - it only really works in a post-modern way, so I actually quite enjoyed it.

It was still twice the film that Godzilla was ever going to be though ;) :D :)

Lost in Translation had its charms.

I bloody hated the star wars films, and thought kill bill 2 was a huge pile of ass as well. All terribly overrated.

I'm not one to listen to hype as all films are a personal thing so no film can be 'the best ever' as it depenRAB on what you like, but I have to say I did not see the point in LA Confidential - what was all the fuss & oscar noms about??? And why Kim Basinger won an Oscar I will never understand.

It was a short story, in the Anthology Different Seasons, along with the stories of the films Stand by Me and Apt Pupil.
I can't believe anyone hates Shawshank, that film is amazing.

Neither appealed to me, but I finally gave in to girlie pal-pressure to watch both 'Four Weddings and a Funeral' and 'Notting Hill'. I shouldn't have. Never. Again.

I finally just accepted that chick flicks and rom-coms are simply not for me.

Yet I enjoyed '50 First Dates'... :o

Love the Shawshank both the movie and book.
Hated or thought the following were totally over rated:
Blair Witch (both of them)
Donnie Darko (maybe because I'm not an angst ridden teenager)
Magnolia (so bored fell asleep in that one)
Vanilla Sky
Eyes Wide Shut (seeing a pattern re: Tom Cruise here ?)
Troy (so disappointed with that one)
Open Water
Spiderman
Cabin Fever
Wrong Turn
AI
Titanic
Kind Arthur (was frozen to my seat in disbelief couldn't believe it was so bad)
