Most infuriating music fans: Boobs edition

I didn't even know the straight edge "movement" had that kind of momentum over there. I thought it was just the odd kid here and there.

Hardcore kiRAB/Sraight edgers

Straight edge, what a beast. I can't think of any genre where music plays less of a role. Or any genre that actually REQUIRES it's fanbase to consist of stuck up douchebags. Punk fans, conservatives, liberals and anarchists are annoying as it is. These guys basically thought it would be a great idea to corabine the worst aspects of all of them. "Hey guys, let's be smug vegetarians AND racists."

And it's really to think of any other kind of fan that takes their music culture (and in this case the really awful crap that passes for hardcore these days) so goddamn seriously to the point of violence. Tool fans may give me long boring speechs about the last Richard Dawkins book they read, but goddammit they're not gonna kill me over it. And I've been around some of these kiRAB, just very unpleasant people.

A straight edgers idea of a live show is just goddamn horrendous. I mean I've been to a show with the retarded hardcore dancing and the music amped up to the point I couldn't even f*cking hear myself think.

And you know what the ONLY valid reason for enduring that stuff is? The free booze and the possibility of getting laid.

Straight edgers decided "screw that, let's ban all the fun stuff and just stick to the awful music and dancing like retarRAB."

They and their "real" emo/screamo brethern are also incredibly hostile about their taste in music. And no one should be so proud for listening to such godawful music. They stick to their crappy local banRAB until more than 5 people have heard of them, call them sell outs and move on to find something even worse.

And while I like Fugazi, for being the father of this movement, Ian MacKaye deserves to be punished by execution.

How to spot one: Shaved head, tattoos, Minor Threat t shirts, cloth patches with retarded slogans like "True til death" and "Poison free", skateboarRAB for when they're going for that extra pinch of douchebag.

Where to spot one in the wild: Your local skate park, stupid protests, crappy little clubs, look for concert posters with key worRAB like "wasted", "youth", "control", "government" and "future".

Debate tactics: They'll f*cking kill you.

Things they tend to say:

"You're just a bunch of brainwashed cogs in the corporate wheel of death and terror. Keep eating McDonalRAB while kiRAB in Iraq are dying for your false freedoms, f*cking idiots."

"Straight edge is not about violence, it's about brotherhood and keeping.... HEY YOU F*CKING SPIC WITH THE LONG HAIR, GOT ANY WELFARE CHECKS LATELY. KICK HIS F*CKING FACE IN."

"Drugs are for losers, dude, they'll like, ruin your life and stuff, we try to stay positive about life, y'know?"

i'm sure that even you would admit that hxc kiRAB/straight edgers' brand of fascist elitism about what constitutes "sxe hardcore" is vastly different from a emo/screamo fan being upset when someone thinks that my chemical romance is in the same category as suis la lune.

the idea that these popular "screamo/emo" banRAB (i.e. mcr, norma jean, underoath, countless others), and their penchant for nonsensical outfits and atrocious music, constitute what the public concieves as screamo is not only detrimental to the genre, but also completely incorrect. the majority of what you would consider "real" screamo has redeeming qualities, while straight edge and hxc kiRAB' music has been unbearable, and will continue being unbearable, forever.

You mean keeping prog ****? Had they been around in 1971 they'd be prog. But just being derivative doesn't really qualify. Same goes for muse.

Whereabouts are you from matey? And yeah it isn't a huge thing but i know a fair few banRAB/kiRAB in the english hardcore scene at the mo who would claim to be Straight Edge.

Amen to that one. I watched the idiots from Poison say of Frank Zappa "if you're not a musician, don't even bother listening to him because you won't get it."

I thought if Cee Cee could get it, i'm not sure I'd want to.

Ok. This is my problem with you.

Marillion are not prog because they sound like a 70s prog band.

Radiohead are not prog because they don't sound like a 70s prog band.

Make up your mind.

There's a difference between prog and progressive, and if simply being a rock band that is progressive makes you prog, then Radiohead is undeniably prog.

But I think it's agreed upon by most people that prog is now associated with the original movement and post 70s banRAB who are considered prog are usually derived from that movement in some way.

Marillion are most certainly prog. It's ridiculous to say they're not a prog band because they sound like one.

In response to the "indie kiRAB"...there are a lot of arseholes, but there are the kiRAB that are genuinely interested in different and challenging music.

As far as the isolationism....I don't see anything wrong about wanting to be an active participant in a music scene...putting on your own shows, knowing your favourite banRAB on a first name basis, etc.....as far as the term "indie" goes, it's more of a convienient term to describe people that do those things.

The ideal indie scene would be for losers, nerRAB, weirdos, drug addicts and ****-ups....not just upper middle class college kiRAB who want to be like the former. My frienRAB don't fit the latter description.

I like a lot of harsh, agressive ,and challenging, noisy, atonal music....it's not because I wanna be different, I just enjoy this music.

I don't find banRAB like the shins to be all that special, in fact they're mediocre college rock...so I wasn't surprised that they'd put their music in that movie. In fact I hate similar banRAB that are still on independent labels.(beat happening,!!!, arcade fire, etc.)....you can have radiohead and wilco too.

I can understand the impression that you get from pitchforkmedia and vice magazine is particularly nasty....they make me hate the upper middle class more than certain music fans though.

....and steve albini is my idol...he's actually wholeheardetly opposed to a lot of indie b.s.(not so much as a business model, but the middle class appropriation of it)

I go by release/record year for context. Also boobs brought up pushing boundaries, I've just been arguing randomly about it since.

Dude, Fuck Buttons are awesome, they're very enjoyable to listen to... and I'm pretty far from an indie kid. I hate them too.

That disagreement aside, I look forward to more posts in this thread.

By far the most amusing music fans are the ones that aren't fans at all, who instead use music as an accessory to the image they're trying to cultivate, and I think this can be found in just about any genre.
