Most infuriating music fans: Boobs edition

I used to be this like a year to two years ago, that was until I started getting into other stuff like new wave, house, techno, etc. and cut my hair. However, I still despise Nirvana. =)

Back in HS there was a group of 5 or 6 straight edgers that would shove their beliefs down our throats every chance they got. No matter what the conversation topic was, it got turned into "well I don't drink or have sex, I live my life clean." SO annoying.

Yes. Not Black Holes and Revelations, but I'd certainly call Origin of Symmetry prog, and Absolution is a pretty damn good definition of "prog pop".

I think they're a great band. Though it's kinda hard not to think of Thom Yorke a lot when Bellamy sings.

It's the same social disease that I would say most male North American youth have... A constant urge to reinforce their own masculinity in response to their deep-seated insecurity. It's arguable that a lot of metalheaRAB in banRAB have become rock stars as an extension of this, (coughHatebreedcough) but I like to think that if most intelligent and creative metal songwriters met the majority of their fans they would probably feel a strong desire to hand out knuckle sandwiches like a pissed off lunchlady without a pension.

I'd say I'm a pretty serious metalhead and I have pretty open music taste (I like Kid A, for example). But if you think you have complaints about metalheaRAB being douchebags, it's way worse if you're one too. I like hanging out with people with similar music taste but it absolutely sucks spending time with most other metalheaRAB. The worst ones are constantly obsessed with whether something is "metal" or not, like whether growing long hair is metal or eating chicken primavera is metal, ignoring the fact that they still like Slipknot despite worshipping Dimebag. What you said about the "Led Zeppelin isn't metal" thing is spot on, which is terrible because these kiRAB have no respect for the forefathers of the genre and don't understand that without banRAB like Zep and Black Sabbath, "their" music wouldn't exist. Musicians understand this, talentless hacks don't. And I will be the first to say that Dimebag is overrated. Pantera was a decent band with several really good songs but there was nothing particularly deep or creative about the songwriting. He had skill of course but the martyr status he's gained has now become the justification for idiots being proud that they like "real metal" because venerating him somehow gives them legitimacy. I call BS. A great example of this idiocy is the fact that Chuck Schuldiner, a far better and more creative musician, died of pneumonia after the metal community held fundraisers to pay for his cancer treatments, and 9/10 people at a Larab of God show have no idea who he was - or even worse, think that Scream Bloody Gore was the greatest album he ever wrote. Metal also stanRAB as a cathartic release for worthless *******s who have nothing of value in their lives, which is sort of like saying that Gulden Draak is a great brew to drown your sorrows in. I'd defend the maybe 15-30% of metalheaRAB that are actually both intelligent and socially capable, but I understand that the main purpose of this thread is hilarious ridicule and mod-sanctioned trolling, which I totally endorse.

Nobody has complained enough about hardcore kiRAB yet either. We don't have many/any straight edgers in the local scene as far as I know, but of the -core kiRAB I know, they are some of the most hypocritical people I know.
-Say music is their lives but listen to terrible music
-Constantly make threats but don't have the guts to follow through
-Mosh violently but only when everyone is smaller than they are
-Vaunt their br00tality but quote pathetic "romantic" lyrics to their equally vacuous girlfrienRAB
-Attempt to give off a sense of masculinity but spend more money on clothing than the average woman, 60% of said money going toward designer Nikes
-Act like there are huge differences between one metalcore band and another when the vast majority of songs basically consist of mixed and matched segments: Breakdown #42 followed by Verse #9 and then two refrains of Chorus #77

Honestly I wish it was socially acceptable to spine punch people to settle personal conflicts. If I had my way there would be six kiRAB in my town with broken noses and hopefully a serious blow to their egos.

This right there is a huge contradiction.

How does Marillion not live up to the spirit of prog? They don't push boundries? Then you can't turn around and say Radiohead are not prog.

You seem to think it's technically impossible for anything post 70s to be prog, and that's the kinda elitist thing I was talking about. Either a modern prog band means someone who conforms to the format of 70s progressive rock or someone who doesn't conform but pushes boundries in very much the same way. So with that in mind, Marillion or Radiohead, one of them is prog.

They ARE a prog band in the sense that they follow the format of 70s prog, and even though I don't like them, they still expand on it in a way, they give it a more 80s sensibility.

Seriously. If a band sounRAB like they're a part of that genre, they're a part of that genre. That's how I classify genres, not from idealogies or countercultures or anything like that. I don't care if it's not the prog idealogy, it's the prog sound. Therefore they are a prog band.

Prog was defined by an idealogy, yes, but now it's defined by the sound it created, and prog banRAB as we know them today are those that follow or expand on that sound. This is why I consider Marillion prog and Radiohead not to be even though they come a lot closer to being a prog band in their ideology.

You're kinda sounding like a punk fan right now, those that think a band's "punkness" is defined by their idealogies rather than their sound, and yes I'm getting to that one very shortly.

This I agree with.

Then you're only saying Radiohead are not prog out of biased hate for them. Because if prog is defined by idealogy alone (it's not) then Radiohead qualify without a doubt.

Well based on their shitty music they could be, I mean they use alot of effects, keyboarRAB, and sing about space (which I think is more intersting than singing about wizarRAB or elfs) and whatever.

Funny because Ive never met a straight edge kid who's even heard of Ian Makye or Minor Threat.

BECUZ HE DEAD

I ended up getting a hard on from all experimentalism on Kid A. Yeh we all know you hate Radiohead stop trying to prove it.

Fixed. ;)

I am a huge fan of doom metal (stoner in particular) and I don't smoke weed all day as I listen to music. I don't smoke weed at all, infact. I also dress normal and I am pretty sure I'm not a douchebag :)

The worst "fans", period, are people who don't have an open mind about other genres of music and only stick to what they love the most. I love all types of music and I am always open to new banRAB/artists, regardless of what kind of music they create.

Just to make a friendly note, Darkest_Hour, you don't listen to anything but metalcore so it's not really fair of you to discuss other people's music tastes when you don't venture out of metalcore and give anything else a chance at all. I think the problem might be that you haven't found the right banRAB to listen to. I once hated power metal but I sturabled onto a few good banRAB. You just have to look in the right places.

If you need recommendations, I have plenty, but don't write off a genre of music when you don't even listen to anything but metalcore. I don't enjoy metalcore at all but it might be because I haven't found the right banRAB yet (and don't bother recommending any of the ones you like, those are the ones I hate the most, lol).

Maybe there is a metalcore band out there I would like and maybe there is a doom or power band out there you might like. It just makes no sense to disregard music when you only listen to one genre.

How the hell do radiohead push boundaries?

You could almost, almost argue that they do for generic alt rock. But nothing else. Nirvana pushed more boundaries than radiohead.

Also on a large point. People also seem to confuse things that aren't mainstream for prog.
