Most Disturbing Moment In A Film

Most disturbing bit in a film EVER has to be the bit in Marathon Man with the dentist drill. Most disturbing thing about it is that the camera pans away so you don't see anything. So you're left hearing Dustin Hoffan screaming and your imagination going APE!!!!!

It's a pretty creepy set up before that bit too with Laurence Olivier repeating 'Is it safe?' Gives me the heeby jeebies.

What about the eyeball scene in 'Thriller - A Cruel Picture'? Rumoured to have used a real corpse, not sure though about that.
A lot of people on here going on about the rape scene in that being graphic, watch this and you will know what graphic is.

For me it's a scene in the Green Mile where a prisoner is in the electric chair and the warden hasn't made the sponge wet and the man catches fire.
It's a really good film but I just can't watch it again because of that scene.

Don't tend to do well with horror films so not seen a lot of the disturbing scenes, however here are a few of mine:

- Scum, already mentioned...just a horrible horrible film really
- The Green Mile, Del's death, again I know it's been mentioned, just really upsetting
- The Champ, the little boy crying over his dad's death...I find it hard to see a child that distraught over anything, Really upsetting.
- Ring of Bright Water...I know it's not really all that bad, but I was a little girl! To make a child watch that film, fall in love with a beautiful animal and then watch it get MURDERED...freaked the hell out of me as a child. Still won't watch it.

To be honest the really gruesome, gory stuff doesn't disturb me all that much. Have been sickened by real stories more. Hard to find a film that properly portrays how horrific some things can be.

*after reading about this 'Irreversible scene' I had to google it, and I agree, pretty nasty!

The trailer was enough put me off for good! what a twisted idea...There is a sequel in the works not with three people but twelve people this time!....I agree about Funny Games (Remake) a really good movie in itself, the end bit was disturbing...
When they shoot the couple's son that was upsetting and distressing to watch

There's a scene in The Entity (IMO the scariest film of all time) where Barbara Hershey is lying frozen in terror on her bed while invisible fingers squeeze her breasts.

I did not sleep a wink for three nights after watching that, I kid you not!

If you like real stories, you want to check out Sybil (the 1977 version starring Sally Field), if you haven't already. You can find the region 1 DVD on Amazon or eBay.
I watched it Saturday, and it broke my heart (and I'm a guy who loves his gory horror! :D), and I've been recommending it to as many people as I possibly can ever since. Fantastic true story. Disturbing as hell, and it doesn't resort to gory violence to get its shocks.

The uncut rape scene in, I Spit On Your Grave

The rape scene in Scum

The cop getting petrol poured over him and almost set on fire in Reservoir Dogs

The poor girl being 'glassed' in Trainspotting (I'm Scottish and people's obsession for fighting is all too real and depressing)

Someone being mercilessly stabbed in the boot of a car in 'Goodfellas'

The cold blooded beating and burial at the end of Casino

The kerb scene in American History X

The pool table and face slashing scenes in The Krays

The setting up of an innocent man for murder and rape while having sex with him in The Last Seduction. "You killed my husband, you killed my husband"

And films that are disturbing from start to finish:

Funny Games

Caligula

Salo

Flower Of Flesh And Blood

The Devils Experiment

Ironically, I don't even like most of the films on the list!

We have a winner everybody!

The atrocities committed to celuloid in that film is faaaaaaar worse than anything in 'Martyrs', 'Salo', 'A Serbian Film', and 'Irreversible' combined!;)

Quite a few to choose from;

- A certain scene in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
- A few scenes from Schindler's List
- A few scenes from The Pianist
- One or two scenes from Hostel
- Sophie's Choice (for obvious reasons!)

That's it off the top of my head. I'm sure there's more!
