Most disturbing (chilling) scenes/sequences in animation

When Judge Doom melts the cartoon shoe in Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

The flash-back sequence from Batman Beyond Return of The Joker. (I am refering to the uncut version) It is actually my favourite part from the film now cause they managed the show what a evil and heartless monster The Joker is.

The hunter who gets shot in the face in Plague Dogs

Itchy and Scratchy from The Simpsons used to freak me out when I was a kid. Now I love them.

And last but not least, the death of Bambi's mom.

Having rewatched the short "Shadow Puppets" for the first time in almost a decade, I'd have to cast my vote for the reveal that the protagonist's fingers are cut off after he regains consciousness. Powerful image.

In your opinion, what are some of the most disturbing scenes/sequences in animation. It can be any scene/sequence. A death scene, a dream scene, or just any scene in general. I have a few of my own.

The Prince of Egypt-There is a scene in this movie where Moses has a twisted nightmare where he imagines himself and other people as hieroglyphics on the walls of the temple. Soldiers chase him around and steal babies from mothers and kill them. It's a truly bonechilling sequence.

The Incredibles-The scene where Mr. Incredible was strangling Mirage. Gosh, you don't see that everyday in a kid's movie!

Pucca-At the end of a Halloween episode called Ghost of a Kiss, a pucca zombie type creature pops up on the screen to scare the living daylights out of any viewer.

Teen Titans- In "The End Part 2" when Slade's mask was knocked off, he turned around and revealed himself to be a creepy zombie/skeleton being! I was not expecting that.

I got a few, all from the Hanna Barbera universe:

*In Josie & The Pussycats where Harry Hawk (alias The Hawk) uses a machine on Melody to extract a formula out from her brain, only the get something else; the sight of that hair dryer dome, on Melody's head, with all those wires coming out of that was unsettling for me. Just, in my POV, chilling for me.

*In The Jetsons story, Rosey's Boyfriend, where Rosey is examined by a robotologist, we see on a wall, a scary looking "X ray" of a pink robot. That was, to me, scary looking.

*But--THE scariest sight of all was in (where else?) in Scooby Do, where not once but a few times over, Mystery Inc. passed by that DREADFUL looking Aztec like statue with the mask and the seven totem pole like things coming out from its top, with the black hairs sprouting out from each of the tops of those poles, it's eyes moving back and forth. Even when that Egyptian sherrif pulled it off, revealing Prof. Hyde White, it was STILL scary as heck before it was pulled off. Now THAT is chilling!!!!

I'm suprised no one has mentioned Filmation's 1987 animated feature "Pinocchio and The Emperor of the Night".

Now that movie is very dark compared to Disney's classic Pinocchio feature, and it has a really terrifying sequence where The Emperor's minion named Puppetino who magically tortures and transforms Pinocchio slowly into a puppet as he screams his head off in agony.

Here is that scene:

Scared the pants off me when i was 5 seeing this in a St. Louis mall movie theater.

And y'know I have nothing to do with your most disturbing and chilling scenes in animation, but while we're talking about the Jurassic Park films (which are not animated not rather live action, though it blends computer animated and animatronic dinosaurs), let's add the rarely seen but terrifying and horrifying, 1996 teaser trailer for Steven Spielberg's oddly dull but impressive 1997 sequel to Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, with that glimpse of the spooky T-Rex roaring at us and making a big footprint in the puddle.

Here is screenshots of that T-Rex from the Lost World: Jurassic Park 1996 teaser from my The World of Tim Box blog:

It may Scared the pants off of some of you when you are youngsters in 1996 seeing this sudden teaser for The Lost World: Jurassic Park in your local movie theatre or your local one in your local mall.

Beware the T-Rex from Hell!

I know it's kinda silly, but I used to laugh right after Bambi's mom died.

I wasn't laughing at the death, but how the scenes changed. One minute, it's winter and sad music is playing and Bambi's mom is dead and you see Bambi and his dad walk off.

Then it fades to happy birds singing in the middle of Spring time, bathing in water with nothing but joy going on in their lives.

It's like, way to keep the mood.

There are probably a number of more disturbing scenes (I can probably think of some myself if I try hard enough) but I've gotta throw in a nom for the "Run away and never come back" scene from The Lion King, where Scar makes Simba feel responsible for killing his father, tells him to run away in shame, then tells the hyenas to kill him.

One of the most disturbing scenes is in Disney's Pinocchio when the Coachman and his helpers are rounding up the donkeys to be shipped out. Also was Lampwick's transformation into a donkey.

Courage the Cowardly Dog takes the cake here IMO, and did a good job of it. (yeah I know, obviouse example)

ex 1: scene where it appears to be a sweet girl (somewhat resembling Helga Pataki of Hey Arnold! I might add) and turns around with that shocking horrific face.

ex 2: The perfect episode with the weird scary fetus thats like "your not perfect"m, Man that freaked me out.

and alot more form this show.

Invader Zim- Dark Harvest: Ok this didn't freak me out a whole lot and I liked this episode but I can somewhat see the shock factor of it, like "wow I'd never expect this in a kids show"

In animation.Well,I say the most disturbing and chilling scene was the cut scene from Lion King 2 where Zira commits suicide. The way she looks up and says."No...never." and then releases herself into the flood truly freaked me out.

I could mention the 1967-70 Spider-man episode who was supervised by Ralph Bakshi, "Revolt in the Fifth Dimension" a very chilling episode when Spidey was in the 5th dimension along the other one "Phantom from the depth of time" where Spidey faced mechanical beetles and all. Both sci-fi plotlines was recycled stock footage from the cartoon Rocket Robin Hood.

Well, While you or I will be talking about Dexter's Laboratory, anyway, Let's add the ever controversial Swimming Pool Scene, with those beautiful and pretty girlies who give Mandark a bath (which I love) (even if they got up, turned around and run off in the distance!!!), the whippin' Scene between Mandark and Teenage Dexter, and the violence in Dexter's Laboratory: Ego Trip, although the swimming pool scene in Ego Trip with those beautiful and pretty sweeties (oh, I mean, girls) who scrubs Mandark's feet, is pretty tame and not that chilling and disturbing at all. You've seen Dexter's Lab: Ego Trip with all that stuff I'm talking about, do ya?

Alot of Ralph Bakshi's films are quite disturbing at points, like in Heavy Traffic with those weird blue faces that popped up everywhere and the pinball noises at the death scene, and the white cop going crazy in Coonskin. Hey good Lookin' attempted this at the end, but it didn't come off as surreal as his other films.

Ren and Stimpy has them too such as the end of Sven Hoek and Space Madness, and half way through Stimpy's Fan Club. Ren and Stimpy's a goldmine. The Adult party cartoon has some too, like in Ren Seeks Help when he murders Mr. Horse.

I'm suprised no one here has mentioned this one yet (unless they did and I overlooked it), but one of the most disturbing and chilling animated scenes I've seen is the death of Scar (The Lion King).

Watching him back up agains the rock in protest as the hyena's come closer and closer, Sid licking his lips as they approach, the shadowy conclusion to the scene as we watch the pack of hyenas leap onto Scar to eat him alive...*shudders*

Charlie's nightmare in All Dogs go to Heaven was creepy.

Ratigan beating up Basil (The Great Mouse Detective) on Big Ben (as well as the scene leading up to it) was chilling to watch too, since it was so brutal.

Well, have you guys seen this 1996 teaser for the Lost World: Jurassic Park? Is the glimpse of the T-Rex roaring at the camera and making a big footprint in the puddle, one of the most disturbing and chilling glimpses in either live action or animation?

It's just a teaser trailer for a live action movie, you know, but the T-rex is animated (in fact, the dinosaur is animated digitally by Industrial Light and Magic) and the glimpse of it roaring at us and making a big footprint in the puddle during a storm is one of the most chilling and disturbing animated scenes in a live action trailer.

Have you seen this sudden teaser? Is that animated T-Rex in that Lost World: Jurassic Park teaser, scary, disturbing, and chilling? Is it? Have you seen it? Anyone?
