Mock The Week - Series 9, BBC2 Thursdays 10pm (Merged)

Did anybody else expect dara to pull out a light bulb, stick it in his mouth and it lighting up?
With his very dark rings round his eyes (sleepless nights worrying about his big head perhaps) and his general overall look; he was the spit of uncle fester

Maybe I was just in a good mood, but I found Milton Jones absolutely hilarious.

The Jeans joke, the TV in the fridge being cool, the three grandfathers, the 'carve' joke...

The only person who got on my nerves was Russell Howard. I find his humour way too juvenile.

I think he is. I got over an instinctive dislike for him a couple of series ago, and he does make me laugh now.

However. I do wish. That he would STOP DELIVERING. All his OBSERVATIONS. In EXACTLY. The same way.

He's only missing for 4 or 5 episodes. He was on last weeks and he'll be in the Christmas special.

A little strange thought that the BBC or production companies involved got the scheduling overlapped so that he had to pull out. or I could be cynical about it and say it was preplanned and a lame excuse :p

Its been ok in places other times its a bit meh, it is me or is Sarah Millican unfunny, just hope they dont invite Lauren Laverne back as she isnt funny either

I don't believe it is contest-centric because no one cares about the winners or losers - but i do agree that the show has been restricted by using the conventions of a quiz/contest, when clearly it is not.

Who else did MM champion? And most comedians talk about their personal life - that's where they get their material from.

Linda Smith was wonderful. Her "A Brief History of Timewasting" radio series is brilliant. (two series in total)

Sarah Millican can be funny. I think her appearance on The Comedy Store is the best of her tv appearances i've seen. It depenRAB on the stories/subjects they have to comment on when on panel shows.

OK, the next round is called "Things we don't want to hear on Mock The Week...":

"So, I'm from Nigeria..."
"So, I'm Iranian..."
"So, I've just had a baby..."

I watched an old episode on Dave last night and it was so good to see them all just having a funny discussion. A few jokes but no shouting or butting in.

John Oliver, Rory Bremner, Jeremy Hardy, Frankie Boyle, Hugh Dennis, Jo Brand and Dara O'Briain.

They want to take a look at those old shows to remind themselves how it should be done.

Yes, in that format he's brilliant. OK, all his material is prepared beforehand so it does sound a bit contrived but his wordplay is funny and his delivery is excellent. I would say that if it was just him, talking to screen (or in a 1 man show) I think he'd run out of material pretty soon - and that after a short time his style would begin to pall. But as a way of injecting some comedy into a rather weak panel on MtW he is very welcome.
