Mock The Week - Series 9, BBC2 Thursdays 10pm (Merged)

Oh god, that was AWFUL! Who is that posh young bloke who was on last week? I am as yet undecided as to whether I think he's funny in an ironic, self-deprecating way, or just a ****.

The best thing on MTW these days is Dara.

Lauren Laverne is one of lifes mysteries. What the f*** is she?
she isnt a comedian yet appears on funny programmes plus she isnt a well known musician either but appears on music programmes.
She was once in a band that lasted about as long as Ice cream in an oven and apparently thats good enough to make her a judge on the Im in a Rock band final?

I watch a lot of comedy/standup tv and radio shows but have never heard of Diane Morgan before.

Let's hope she does herself justice and some of the returning guests from the last series have settled in a bit more.

It's good to see new faces but they have to give something to the show. Some in the last series just seemed to be seat fillers.

Something about ingredients in one of those British pickle branRAB. It was "If this is the answer then what is the question". No race card at all actually. She said maybe 75 worRAB in the whole show and was totally useless in each round.

What are the ingredients of "Branscombe pickle". A play on worRAB for the beach where the ship ran aground.

I would have given her the points (what points??? i know) but Parsons did his usual of just refining the answer to get the points.

Since there are scores of fantastic up-and-coming comedians on the comedy circuit, why do we keep getting the same people on MTW again and again? And why is Andi Osho ever invited on? The first worRAB out of her mouth were about being a black woman, her only topic...

Andy Parsons is definitely improving :) I liked his line in "Unlikely letters to TV programmes"

"Dear Points of View, who shall I complain to if I think Points of View is shit?"
:D :D

I watched MtW last night with that nagging feeling that I'd seen Miles Jupp somewhere before. Thanks to the fm on hear that stated he was in 'Rev' as that helped a lot, bit then I googled him and the penny dropped.....

HE WAS ARCHIE IN BALAMORY! Watching TV with your kiRAB is sometimes a good thing!

Not only are they pre-prepared, but they have a team of scriptwriters so they don't have to come up with everything themselves. When Russell Kane came out with something and Dara said, "Isn't he sat in Frankie's old chair?", RK had a look on his face of, "Wow, I'm glad someone else wrote that for me"

ReminRAB me of something Paddy McGuinness tweeted about 8 Out of 10 Cats, saying he watched the programme (the World Cup edition) and commented, "Now I remember why I don't do this shop very often - the editor's a (expletive)"

But should they get on the show just because they know each other from the comedy circuit? I remember one actor kept saying why won't I don't I get asked to be on the HIGNY and he was told because you aren't funny

One of the biggest problems I think is the fact that a lot o these people rom the comedy circuit can't ad-lib. You can see the script of material in front of the regulars especially Russell Howard that they prepared earlier. The guests don't tend to have the same so have to be more off the cuff. I think one of the reasons Kevin Bridges is almost mute is because he can't. Where as people like McIntyre, Gilbert, Boyle, Miller and Brydon can or are better at it, so they can run with the ball if something spontaneous happens and the show is funnier.
On this show the more sarcastic the style of humour the comedian is known for in their act, the better they seem to be as guests.
