Don't go through a company. They can't do anything you can't do yourself and they charge a load of money.

The firm that arranged the PPI should have explained what if was and how it worked. It should also have been appropriate for your boyfriend at the time. If it is clear that your boyfriend could not possibly have claimed (e.g. he was self-employed) or the PPI was added without explanation, he has grounds for complaint. He should write to the firm heading his letter COMPLAINT, explaining why he thinks the PPI was missold and asking for his money back.

The firm need to investigate the complaint and should keep your boyfriend informed of progress. If they don't investigate, or he doesn't agree with their decision, he can then ask the Financial Ombudsman to intervene. Apart from the cost of the stamps, none of this costs you a penny.

my boyfriend thinks he may have been Miss sold his payment protection on his car he bought from welcome car finance a few year ago.
We want to try and claim this back but have heard that a few people have been landed with thousands of pound bills when the claims were rejected.
Has anyone else been successful in claiming back their PPI and who is the best company to go through to do it?
Any other information would be very useful also! Thank you in advance x
