-The reason for Static Shock's decline was not the fact that it had an African-American protagonist, nor was it their over-reliance on hip-hop speak and music (although the former is unfortunately the reason that toy manufacturers refused to go near it and the latter certainly didn't help). It was the overabundance of crossovers and celebrity guest stars that ruined SS. They made it look as though the show couldn't stand on its' own merits.
-CGI is not the devil. Yes, it's animation's latest trend and it's kind of being overdone now, but computer graphics aren't the ruination of the cartoon industry. It's just another way of telling a story.
-Something which is getting a bit long in the tooth for me is the trend of characterizing male/female duos (be they parents, siblings, partners, what have you) by making the female half of the duo exceedingly perfect, competent and flawless and never receiving so much as a scratch, and the male half will be portrayed as totally incompetent and buffoonish and will routinely get knocked around all the time. This isn't particularly flattering for either gender: not flattering for the guys to regularly be characterized as bumbling goofballs, and not especially great for the ladies either, since characters who never screw up don't get the laughs and are no fun to write for. Examples are numerous: Cosmo and Wanda from Fairly OddParents, The Wonder Twins Zan and Jayna, Kim Possible and Ron Stoppable, Victor Volt and Anita Knight from The Secret Show. I'd like for once to see a male/female duo who are both equally flawed.
-Cartoon Network's new George of the Jungle revamp isn't a great show, but it does have some potential. The biggest problem I see with it is that there's very little of the spirit of the original Jay Ward series in it; it comes off like a random jungle cartoon with the George of the Jungle label slapped onto it. That, at root, may be the biggest handicap of the show; trying to live up to the original George is no small task. Perhaps CN and Teletoon should've rendered this new series as its' own stand-alone thing and not tried to link it to GotJ at all. As long as CN's GotJ stands under the shadow of the Jay Ward original, it will always be thought of as an also-ran wannabe.
