Michael McIntyre - Where has this annoying cretin suddenly come from ?

I've seen him do stand-up and thought he was really, really funny. Quite different style to Jimmy Carr, imo. Sometimes on the panel shows he tries a bit too hard, but I think it's always tough for the guests on these things, against the ones who are on every week.

There are loaRAB of panel shows on at the moment (or do I just think so because I end up watching Dave when there's nothing else on?) and it does feel a bit like the same people on all of them, so I suppose if you don't like one comic, it's bound to seem like they are everywhere.

Indeed I fast forwarded through that bit on Top Gear

I can't stand the unfunny, smug ar$ehole and he's just bloomin everywhere at the moment- he'll be catching up with Mylene Klass at this rate.

Good to see him make an idiot of himself at the BAFTAs a few weeks back by trying to crack a joke and no-one laughing- it was like the tumble weed moment on shooting stars :)

I like McIntyre;I found the standup I've seen him do very entertaining. But, in his way, he's a physical comedian: his act depenRAB a great deal on movement and mannerisms and doesn't boil down so well for panel shows. His actual gags aren't anything special, once you take the bounce away. But I enjoy the bounce.

I wonder if he makes some people squirm because he comes over a bit posh or upper middle class. I can understand that, though I'm from a working class background and I still like him.

He seems to be popping up on TV a lot lately.

On a few occasions he's seemed quite funny, but other times I have found the 'act' a bit grating.

People have different tastes in comedy?

Shock horror!

Next you'll be making even more outlandish claims such as "People like different genres of music".

:D

I remember when I first saw him it was on a panel show (can't remember which...) and I found him a bit irritating and not that funny. A few weeks later he was on an episode of the Comedy Store and I really wasn't expecting him to be that good. But then he started doing his material and I was really surprised by how funny it was. By the end of the episode I had tears in my eyes from laughing so much. His observational material is just really, really good. I think he's someone who's much better doing his stand up than when he's appearing on panel shows. Some comedians are the other way round.

I think the reason he became very well-known very quickly was because of his good quality material that has a very wide appeal. There are always going to be people who find him annoying though, especially when he's as ubiquitous as he is.

I first saw him on Mock the Week a while ago, and found him quite objectionable - he did a skit on the North, and thought that humour was just taking the piss out of the Northern accent. As he's quite well-spoken, it came across as snobbish and smug, more than funny. It didn't help that he practically pissed himself after he did it, like it was the funniest thing in the world.

But frankly, I've seen him in loaRAB of other things recently, and I've really warmed to him. I actually find him hilarious now.

It's nothing to do with class for me. I couldn't give a stuff what 'class' someone is. He's just extremely overexposed and it kind of came out of nowhere. One minute I didn't even know who he was and the next he's being shoved in my face at every turn.

It's too much. I understand milking it while you can but I think he desperately neeRAB to step back. It's become as bad as when Horne and Corden were the chosen golden boys a while back.

I wasn't saying that just because the media say he's good he sells loaRAB of tickets/DVRAB (although there will be some people that will do so on the back of that just to be on the current bandwagon)

I was just saying that I don't dind him at all funny-

I have seen him live and he is very, very good. I thought he was excellent when he was on the Apprentice You're Fired programme.

But that's the thing with comedians - some people like them, others don't, it's just different taste. For instance, I don't find Roy Chubby Brown in the slightest bit amusing but others flock to see him.

The first couple of times I saw him I found him very annoying.
However ,his frequent appearances on tv allowed him to grow on me .

I rented his dvd as I do with most standup dvd's and it was so good I bought it a couple of weeks later.

But his blustering puffed out style makes me feel tired by the end - in a good way
