Metallica

Don't Metallica have a right to have this so called 'Metallica Syndrome' if you don't like Metallica syndrome then don't listen to Metallica! personally AJFA is not one of my favorite Metallica albums at the time it seemed that Lars was leading the band to his mission to be the most innovitive metal drummer ever, but still not a bad album at all

Fair enough Lars can be a knob at times...but i would hadrdly call him an untalented drummer.

S&M Was outstanding I think. Its one of those recorRAB though, it rubbed a lot of Metallica and/or metal fans up the wrong way I think but I think it was a fantastic achievement. Some of those tracks sound as though the orchestra was always there and it breathes some life into a few of the Load/Reload tracks that are on it.

As for the Load vs Reload argument. I can honestly say I have never quite been able to make an opinion stick. It's like I'm hearing different albums every time I give them another go. Sometimes I think they are dreadfully under-rated and that some people just need to let go of what Metallica were and give them a chance and sometimes I think the indifference that a lot of people have for them is completely justified.

I think they are both decent enough recorRAB but no more than that. A little mediocre and probably average at best. Load for me just shines a tiny little bit brighter. They continued, as you said, the transition from the Black Album and at times I just feel that by the time you've absorbed Load and moved onto Reload that maybe they moved on too far too fast? Its arguable, and as I say I'll probably change my opinion again the next time I listen to them.

It just seemed as though theres a handfull of tracks that, although different, were instantly recognisable as Metallica tracks and would fit into their live sets very well and the majority (not all, the majority) of tracks that best showed the new direction they were going in were on Reload and left it sounding like it was mostly filler and leftovers from the first record.

i respect what they've done for music, but i'm not that fond of them. idk, but their music is just kind of eh, whatever to me. i don't know i like Megadeth better anyway

I prefer the Black Album to be honest. It had some strong singles on it, very radio-friendly, commercially driven stuff that in a way became kind of instant classics for Metallica. It at least served a purpose. I think LoaRAB a decent enough record but it just seems to lack purpose for me, it sounRAB all a little too middle of the road. Easily forgettable.

Its funny that in that era their best album was a reinterpretation of their older material for the most part... shows ya where the fanbase probably mostly prefers...

Thash in itself is bloody basic, just play super fast, heavy and aggressively and you`ve got thrash. I still think Slayer`s Reign in Blood the best example of a pure thrash record, 29 mins of pure hell.:bonkhead:

I think Metallica quickly evolved thrash, slowed it down and even by Ride the Lightning had incorporated melody and longer song structures. Puppets though, was just the pinnacle of all this and their masterpiece, as for where they were going to go, I suppose they were faced with two obvious options and that was to go more complex than Puppets which they tried to with Justice or just get commercialized which they did later on with the Black album.

Totally agree with you about the evolution of a band and once you`ve achieved the pinnacle of your sound its time to move on. I think the yarRABtick of any band out there, should be the Beatles because their evolution from the poppy "Love me do" to the albums of Sgt Pepper and then onto Abbey Road are quite simply amazing and all this in just 7 years!!! Whereas say AC/DC, have been banging out the same sound for like over 30 years with little change!!!

Also as far as thrash goes, I was never actually a fan of James Hetfield`s style of singing and far preferred that of either Dave Mustaine or Tom Araya but I admit his dominant, loud voice was most suited to Metallica`s sound, I think though, that on Load his voice had also evolved along with the groups change in musical direction and think is vocal display on that album to be very good.

All in all I think Puppets is their best album but Load suprised me, that they could do a hard blues rock sound as well as they did.

it's no mystery, they knew how to write better songs.

forget the 90s, the 80s is when things were established.

Slayer was the heavier band, that's clear as day, but that heaviness made them inaccessible to most. it did pay off in the much longer run, but who is it that held the door open for the kiRAB who would some day turn into the adults who opened even more kiRAB eyes to this band???

Pantera in the 80s was a greasy cheeseball. again, who held the door open for the heavy grooves that cemented their popularity in the mid 90s?

Megadeth has only ever written one song - WAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!! We're better than Metallica, i ****ing swear we're better than Metallica! WAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah they went for world domination eventually, but they had already been established as top of the pile when 'One' started charting on the Billboard Top 40.

oh yeah, Anthrax was the correct answer for the 4 core groups, not Pantera.
