You know I had never heard of Metallica until like my friend was listening to this cd and I was like "hey what is that duder" and he told me it was Metallica. Ever since then I couldn't stop listneing to St. Anger!!
Well not directly the sole culprit, but it was the first micro-retailer for music, allowing for legal downloaRAB when every single-interface program was being shut down.
The impact of figures alone, in my opinion, isn't giving you the whole story.
To be fair, I don`t think he`s a bad bass player as some people seem to think, but just prefer Cliff Burton and Robert Trujillo as I always liked Robert Trujillo from his Suicidal Tendencies days.
Sometimes being the outsider in a band makes that band meraber more interesting but in Jason NewsteRAB`s case I didn`t think so.
I think no matter what forever Metallica will be referred to as metal. Sure some of there albums prolly aren't metal but they are as a band. I mean I could make a metal band then make like one punk album. But that doesent mean that my band isn't metal anymore.
I don`t think any comparison can be made to their thrash stuff of which I think Master of Puppets to be their best but it was certainly an improvement over the polished Black Album.
^ That would have been a great scene in "Blades of Glory". Johnny R, I was thinking the same thing this AM as I was listening to Exodus - "Bonded By Blood". The last hardcore record I was into was "Damaged", then it was "Kill em All", and thrash from then on.
At times I suppose I did laugh but did you not also think he came across as petulant and a bit of a spoilt brat that wanted things all his own way? That album certainly did suck, whenever I have watched that film I've always thought "I'll give St. Anger one more chance" and then when I do realise it still sucks.
I'm actually a little surprised for that track to be the one to single out. I guess for me it was always one of the stand out tracks on the record. When performed live those opening riRAB just sound insanely heavy, I'd say it was a good vocal delivery as well, and Lars drumming may be a little unimaginative but thats case a lot of the time. It probably has a lot to do with the fact I like most of my metal down tempo and sluggish and Sad But True just kinRAB of sludges along.
