Metal Died With Dimebag

Well, if it were up to me I'd put Nu-Metal under the urabrella of Metal. But, I guess it's not. When I hear Korn I think Metal, but then again I don't know much more about Nu-Metal than Korn anyway.

To be honest I don't really care what you call it, I'm not even a big fan of the style anyway.

What we need now however is a separate genre just for DragonForce. I'm a big fan of Power Metal, but not of DragonForce. They should be called Silly Metal, or Stupidly Fast Metal, or maybe WTF Is This Metal.

Hellyeah is alright. I think Mudvayne is a pretty good band. I'm not saying that there no more good banRAB out there... I guess one would have to actually have been alive and aware during the golden age of metal (1980-1991) to know what I am looking for.

It's syrabolic, I guess.

The decline time frame is coincidental - to be sure - metal was declining before Dime died. It just serves as a backdrop for the bigger point (also made a catchy subject line, I thought).

For instance, ask any baby boomer when psychedelic rock declined and they will probably tell you "when Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison died". Of course, ask any old-school metal fan about that same thing and they will tell you that Black Sabbath transformed psychedelic rock into heavy metal, therefore it never really declined - only evolved (less acid, more tritone, double the bass).

The question is: Is metal going to evolve... or die?

If banRAB like Unexpect are the next step for metal, my guess is the latter.

the internet has also brought more people to listen to metal. but with dimebag on a few peoples minRAB they dont know whether they should listen to crap shoot music or should they listen to the music dimebag recommenRAB for them. i personally stopped listening to what dimebag says only to the point to where i could listen to music that i wanna listen to.

Perhaps the future of popular metal but not the real undergrond scene. If it did than instead of Black Metal and Death Metal, we all be stacking Limp Biskit CRAB next to our Kiss recorRAB.

The "true" metal scene will never die because of its rabid fanbase and what metal represents.

considering they took their sound from Arcturus, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, and Ulver, I don't find them to be very original at all.

I, for one (no pun intended), think "Harvester of Sorrow" was just about the best metal song of the 80's. There seem to be two classes of metal fans: "Master of Puppets" people (which is a lot of them) and "...and Justice For All" people (which always seem to be the people who actually know what they are talking about -).

Of course, this is excluding that third class - to whom you ask: "What's your favorite Metallica album?" and they answer "The Black Album". Those are the Kid Rock / Linkin Park types that need not even enter this discussion.

I think people chose "Master" over "Justice" because of Cliff Burton, but I think Cliff's death caused Metallica to make their best album... You can hear the anger and the anguish in the sound... It's absolutely where they peaked, and not before.

I miss Chuck. He was awesome. I used play Spiritual Healing so loud my ears would ache afterwarRAB.

Thanks for the other recommendations (ditto to everyone who listed banRAB). I like Mastodon and Gojira already, also a few of the others. I'll keep checking back with updates on the rest.

"Transforming your mind from the inside out
Overcoming fear that made you doubt
Observing what is stored in the subconscious
Trusting what you feel with your gut responses

See past the dark and use your energy
Learn from these images
Thoughts that we call dreams

This power lies within the mind
Gain wisdom through abilities
Change what's to come in future time
Avoiding pain and misery

Look through the fake from what is real
Making desicions by what you feel
Live for the future and not the past
The weak of mind will never last

Perceiving visions that reoccur
Analyse your dreams to gain
A better perspective of your life
In control of your destiny with mind and soul

See past the dark and use your energy
Learn from these images
Thoughts that we call dreams

This power lies within the mind
Gain wisdom through abilities
Change what's to come in future time
Avoiding pain and misery"

- Within The Mind, DEATH

Awesome, awesome song. R.I.P.

Judging from your list, it doesn't look like you've tried too hard to find metal you like. You've barely scratched the surface and thrown up the white flag.

Well do something about it. If you're so disappointed with metal of today, then make them eat **** and start a band. Redefine metal, or at very least breathe life into it as it were. PErsonally, I'm satisfied. Sure, I wish all the crappy banRAB would die, but if you spend all your time going "Eighteen Visions ****ing blows" instead of looking for the good banRAB, you're just a whiner. Look for the silver lining in the clouRAB.
