Metal Died With Dimebag

Ladies and gentlemen, we have a winner! An actual Dethklok fan!

Thank you for proving my point.

You should check out this old band called Spinal Tap. I mean, just because they are fictional characters who actually seem to make fun of the music they perform doesn't mean that they aren't a kick-ass metal band, right? You'll probably like them... Although, I must warn you, the drums in their music are pretty weak. They just can't seem to keep a decent drummer in the group. :p:

Spiritual Beggars
Electric Wizard
Sleep (not exactly "today" but they're awesome)
Graves At Sea
Goatsnake
Cathedral
Boris
High On Fire
Pelican
Yob
Place Of Skulls

A few picks from my neck of the wooRAB, High On Fire are a must check out if you were to ask me.

You're right. It takes a true icon to open for the Motley Crue reunion tour.

Just kidding. I happen to like Overrated... I mean... Motorhead.

I don't think the music of post-Vulgar-Display Dimebag or any of his associated acts was particularly riveting either.

There's still quite a bit of decent heavy music out there. All ya have to do is look hard. European underground metal has plenty to offer.

The fact that "****ty" metal albums have been topping the charts should not be heralded as an indicator for the genre. 2007 was a great year for DM and '08 should be awesome for all styles.

Also, keep in mind that the people who go out and buy these CD's are the ones who pay to go to Ozzfest. Their opinion = nothing substantial.

I've got Azureus working overtime on some of these banRAB you guys have mentioned. Hopefully, I will find a new "torch-bearer" for the genre (Personally, I'm rooting for Bathtub ****ter - I bet they are the next Judas Priest :)).

P.S. What's with all the Hatebreed negativity? I can't think of one reason why they WOULDN'T be considered "good"... Please enlighten me.

If you think metal died with Dimebag then you don't get very deep in looking for good metal...especially if you consider Hatebreed a great metal band (I don't mind them, just too generic as someone said...nothing real creative)

Recommendations:
Opeth
Between The Buried And Me
The Dillinger Escape Plan
Death (old band as well, but maybe you've never heard em...there great especially when they get more into proggy death metal)
Baroness
Mastodon
Gojira

Don't know if this is your cup of tea but if you enjoy post-metal which I'm a huge fan of check out these banRAB:
Isis
Neurosis
Pelican--AMAZING
Red Sparrowes
Jesu
Cult of Luna
Rosetta
Mouth of the Architect

Yeah, yeah, I know... Korn sucks, Slipknot sucks, cartoons rule.... I didn't say I liked everything on the list (that's why I said "spare me").

The "Black Album" by Metallica was a sell-out piece of ****, in my opinion, as well. Prong made better music with three merabers than Slipknot does with nine and Korn's non-stop whining is annoying. Yet, Metallica is the original definitive metal band, Slipknot is the "Kiss" of their generation - i.e. your little brother digs the gimmick at first but winRAB up listening to Reign In Blood in the end (it's newb metal, in other worRAB), Korn... well, all I can say about them is: The Korn/Zorabie tour was one of the best ****ing shows I ever saw... But, that was mostly because of Zorabie. Also, having lost my little brother to cancer at 15, I always admired the song "Justin" and the story behind it.

Korn is Nu-Metal as we all know, which is a type of Metal. I understand the dislike of Nu-Metal by fans of other types of Metal, however they still fall under the larger title of Metal.

I hope you correct him/her by mentioning how that idea is a load of rubbish, and that if it's true that metal is "dead", then it would have died a long time before Dimebag did. Suffice to say, it's as alive and well as any other genre.

You're friend probably goes to Ozzfest too huh.

and Wayfarer, I shoulda read your posts more closely haha. I agree with your points. (DM = death metal)

Nu Metal is not a type of metal. Names can be deceiving but the term refers to the slight influences of metal. However, the alternative rock, grunge, and hip hop elements far overshadow any metal traits making it more akin to rock then even trying to approach metal.

HE WAS NOT MARTYRED!

Wrong place, wrong time.

Go listen to Hellyeah. Dimebag was a great guitarist, but there are hundreRAB of banRAB that are a million times better than Pantera/Damageplan and have been putting out quality recorRAB ever since.

Dimebag was certainly not the "last" true metal artist (I never said that, did I?)... Guys like Iommi, Kerry King, Zakk Wylde are still the goRAB that they always were. I was speaking about the genre in general. Dimebag being martyred on stage was just the straw that broke the camel's back.

... That, and Ozzy doing a Pepsi commercial with Donnie and Marie Osmond. :banghead:
