Memories of YuYu Hakusho

Nope, because they know I get heated fairly quickly when people try to force their opinions on me. So I try to drop conversations as quickly as possible before it even comes to that.

It took me awhile to get used to that series.
At first, I just felt like it was a rip-off from DBZ. But, later on, I did enjoy the series.
Personally, I do enjoy the dubs. Though, I feel like chris sabat was way to goofy on Kuwabara Voice, but I'll take it.

In all, the series is fun.

it's not force. No one's putting a gun to your head. I'm not getting upset, and if me saying that i really think fans of the show should give it at least a shot, then i really think the best course would be to not respond. Try changing the subject to the show itself

It was similar to DBZ, but it took things that weren't so good about DBZ, fixed them and applied it to the YYH-No filler, no constant laser spams, everybody gets to fight, had a great tournament arc. A great series.

Probably it's being seen as forced is because in most of your responses to people regarding the dub were attempts on pushing the sub on them and I agree with Magus you are coming off as forcing it.

Hey guys, get back to talking about the show instead of subtitles. I have no problem locking this if it looks like the useful part of the discussion is over.

i think the series ended properly and unexpectedly. Kurama went back to a normal life, Kuwabara is now studying and doing well in school, Hiei has calmed down a lot, there's balance between the 3 realms and Yusuke enRAB up with Keiko.

i like battle powers too. Unfortunately, DB's went off the charts and became absurd. They grew exponentially. YYH's were usually approximations. In real life, the difference between the best and second can be fractions of a second. In DBZ it got to the point where guys had to be miles apart to be considered stronger. It just got absurd.

I love the resolution to the show. It broke convention. Yusuke lost the tournament, but that wasn't the point.

I haven't had a lot of time to come online, recently, which is why I didn't respond to this thread sooner. But, let me just say that Yu Yu Hakusho is BY FAR my favorite shounen anime, one of my favorite anime in general, one of my favorite cartoons in general, and just overall one of my favorite TV shows ever, period.

As for the whole dub vs. sub thing, all I'll say about that is that while I initially was really biased towarRAB the sub, I have now seen mosto f the series in Japanese with subtitles, and have really grown to appreciate its great voice acting, especially with the voices of Hiei and Kuwabara. However, I still have to say that I personally prefer the English dub, partly because that's the version which I grew up watching on Adult Swim and Toonami, and also partly because I personally find its jokes to be much funnier than they are in the sub for Yu Yu Hakusho. Also, Justin Cook's voice for Yusuke pretty much makes the dub for me. I agree with the people who said that he deserves an award for that particular role. And, honestly, it wasn't really all because of his witty humor or one-liners, but moreso because I just felt that this tone fit Yusuke's character perfectly for most parts in the series (there were a few scenes where I felt that he could have doen some better voice acting, but overall, I have very little to complain about when it comes to his portrayal of Yusuke). As for Nozomu Sasaki's Yusuke voice, I do like it, but it just doesn't grab my attention as well as Cook's Yusuke voice does (but that's just my personal opinion).

Anwyays, if I had to say what I liked best about this series, it would easily have to be its brilliantly characterized cast. I love the main 4 characters, I find a lot of the supporting characters to be well done and memorable as well, and I also find the villains to be fantastically characterized as well, particularly ones like Sakyo, Younger Toguro, and of course Sensui (with each of this awesome personalities that we get to see ).

I'm actually of a somewhat opposite opinion. I actually feel that it goes way up in quality with the Chapter Black arc, simply because that arc proves that YYH could focus more on story than fighting and still be really entertaining. Overall, that has to be the best-written arc that I have seen out of any shounen anime, personally. I do agree with people who feel that the show went downhill with the Three Kings arc, though, but it was still relatively entertaining, and there wasn't anything that I really disliked about it, aside from the fact that it was insanely rushed.

Even though I'm not a big fan of the movies, I've always wanted them to dub them just so I can hear some more awesome performances from at least the main English dub cast of the series. However, I have really lost most of my hope for that ever happening, since it doesn't look like FUNi even has any interest in the series anymore, which is probably why they haven't even attempted to license either of the movies at all (besides, if they were going to, I'm pretty sure that they would have done it by now).

But, maybe if enough people express to FUNimation that they would really want to see them license the movies and give them a proper dub, they might actually go for it (but I still highly doubt that it would be very likely to happen ).

This would have to be one of my top favorite animes. I watched it when Adult Swim (anime) first started and saw all the way through to the dark tournement. After that my viewings were sporatic and I just skipped to different parts and then the end.

As for this whole "Dub/Sub" thing, I much prefer the dub version. I've seen the japanse version and while it is good, I feel the dub has more energy in it. For example, the scene when Yusuke is spent and he's trying to control Genkai's power and Puu is trying to give him water. In the japanese version, Yusuke was in serious pain, but he was quiet about it. (Meaning his energy was so shot that he couldn't even scream anymore.) While in the dub, Yusuke was screamig like his heart was about to explode from his chest. I feel that emotionally, I was more attached towarRAB the dub of this seen because from how Justin Cook was screaming you could tell he was in a hell of a lot of pain. Yet he toughed it out like a trooper and saved Puu.

I guess its cause I like the hot blooded approach Funimation took with the voice acting that drew me to it. Plus Yusuke was a massive jack*** even in the face of death and the way Cook delivered his lines just cracked me up every time. I've seen both sides of the coin, and I have chosen the one America has given us.

Wow, a YYH thread. There is a reason why I have the last two arcs in singles on my shelf next to my Beck Complete Series Set. This is my favorite anime of all time. I am going to just say that I find both the sub and dub to be overall equal. Each side has its faults, but they go together beautifully.

I was hooked on this series the moment Yusuke realizes that he's dead. We see the hero of the series is all ready dead in the beginning of the story! It took me aback and made me want to watch more. We slowly get to know this world through our characters, and when I mean characters, I mean characters. These people are not archetypes that you find in a lot of anime. Kuwabara is a character that appears to be a butt monkey but turns out to be one of the manliest male characters in 90's anime, if not of all anime. Kurama is one of the few bishounen characters that I respect. Every time Kurama does something, it's a cold, calculating move that tears his obstacle into ribbons, figuratively and literally. Hiei is how you do serious, brooding character correctly. The demon has honor and respect that very many modern characters lack. Despite his rage for his sister's tormentor, Hiei stopped brutalizing him only because his sister pleaded for mercy. Very few people could do that if put in a similar situation. Of course, I cannot forget about Yusuke, the street punk with a heart of gold and blood of a demon. My favorite Yusuke moment that I believe defines his character is when he completes Genkai's final training in the cave during the Dark Tournament. He's half-dead from the torturous pain of assimilating the Spirit Wave Orb and watches Puu struggle to give him water. He pleaRAB with Puu to stop hurting itself for him and realizes that his pain is Puu's pain and vice versa. Something snaps and Yusuke fully takes control of the Spirit Wave Orb within him and takes his hurt spirit beast out of the cave so they can finally rest.

Yu Yu Hakusho is why I like shounen anime because it redefined shounen as did Dragonball Z. There is nothing I would change about this series, and I have a lot of things I would change in many recent series.

Forever, Fornever

I love this show so much. It is far better than DBZ. The Dark Tournament is certainly my favorite, it made me fall in love with the show. A true classic.

i get more emotionally connected to the sub voices as for the most part i think they are much better and the acting is better. The dub version of Genkai's death scene or Yusuke's death at the hanRAB of Sensui fall a little flat for me while there's so much emotion in the sub. The performances are just so much better.

I wouldn't say it got too absurd, but Toriyama did drop them because the numerical side of battle powers were becoming too much of a hassel to deal with, so there's that to consider...

I got the newest Shonen Jump today, and it was great to read the end of this great series.

Now I can definitely say that my favorite arc was Chapter Black.

DBZ characters could blow planets up and old DB characters where left out classes and forgotten. I'm glad Yu Yu Hakusho never got that insane.

Ooh, so did I! Just finished, like, twenty minutes ago. Soooooo sad... I liked the little stories they didn't adapt for the anime, with the fake ghost stories, and Yusuke's ramen shop, and all that. I think I prefer the anime ending overall, but that final image of the room, with the open window, blowing a photograph to the floor... you can just feel the summer wind as the sun sets, lazily breezing past. A very soul-sad moment. Bittersweet, I suppose.

I preffer the manga ending becuase of that last little adventure the main 4 had in spirit world with the borab thing, it felt really complete to me at the end because of it. Also, the story where Hiei found the dude that use to be Mukuro's slave master was way cool.
