Memories of YuYu Hakusho

Heh. YYH is a show I wish I would have appricated more the first time I watched it back when it was on Adult Swim.

I was rewatching a few early episodes a while back trying get some inspiration for my own stories, then one thing lead to another, and suddenely I found myself rewatching a bulk of the series, and thinking to myself, "WOW, this show was really REALLY good!"

Team Uremeshi I'd dare say is maybe my favorite team in all of animation now. All four guys couldn't be any different from each other and yet they somehow manage to mesh VERY well together. The main cast as a whole were extremely likeable, with Kuwabara being my favorite. There was just something about him that made me root for him. He was clearly the weakest meraber, but he also very clearly had the most heart & guts of the group. The dub's dialogue was extremely clever, it's kinda sad that I can't think of too many modern day show I watch that made me laugh or get pumped up as much as this show did.

Overall it was a very fun show that, in my view, did Shonen right. Fights were intense and never seemed like they dragged on too long. Nice comedy, just a great experience, definately grew into one of my favorite animated shows.
 
That's true, but still that's little bit lazzy writing.
Though, I do love Dragonball, I still wish Yamcha, Tien, and Roshi have bigger part in the series.
They, just came by & left.
At least most of the characters YYH did something into the whole series.
 
Anyone else see parallel's between Yusuke vs. Toguro and Goku vs. Frieza. The whole 100% thing and how it took the death of their best friend in order to beat them? (Obviously Toguro is a much better and well-developed character but I'm just saying)

As for my favorite moment....I guess it would have to be the three fights Kurama had that screwed him over during the Dark Tournament. As in when he fought the makeup guy and that left him paralyzed against Touya, and then he put the Death Seed in himself and hit Touya with it and then that mist dude just beat him up even though he was unconsious. That was a very badass Kurama moment there.

I also liked the Yusuke blowing up the cave to rescue Puu scene as well. It was like 10 times more enjoyable when Cook did it though. I think him, Sean Schemmel and Vic Mignogna have probably visted the doctor the most for their throats.
 
True, but the way DragonBall did it was, in many ways, one of the worst parts of the series. Fortunately, much like Togashi's other masterpiece HunterXHunter, Yu Yu Hakusho doesn't drop almost any of it's main cahracters, with the exception of Kuwabara in the last arc... Which, honestly, was an issue for a lot of Kuwabara fans and even just fans of the series. Guy deserved at least a little bit of involvement. Then again, it was obvious that his limits as a fighter were lower than the rest and a heavy power-up that late in the show would have seemed tacked on and almost out of character for him.
 
Also, let's be real. What was he really going to do there? This was a demon tournament so he wouldn't have been able to fight and he would have just been spectating the whole time. Probably wondering which side to root for. I wish Kuwabara had a little bit more screentime in the end too but he really just didn't have a place the way the arc was set up.
 
Well, that's all personal opinion more than anything else, but at any rate I just felt the need to point out that it seems as though you are making quite a few typos when you are referring the "dub" and "sub" in a few of your posts. I'm only pointing this out because it kind of makes your posts a tad bit confusing to read at times, so you might want to double-check things like that.
 
good storytelling doesn't mean catering to fans of every character. Kuwabara's arc didn't revolve around fighting anymore. He had learned and grown. He was wrapped up fine. The last arc was more about the search for identity, and Kuwabara knew who he was.
 
Which is then followed up by a very badass Yusuke moment when he threatens to shoot Bakken to save Kurama, risking starting a riot in the stadium. Just one awesome moment after another.
 
While I wasn't comparing the two series, nor was I even speaking of the characters () I will ask if there was anything left to do with any of the characters 'dropped'.

Not that there isn't still room for future specials to focus on them (well, I don't know if I want a Tenshinhan special without Suzuoka, but still).
 
With that being said, Kaiser pretty much hit it on the head. Kuwabara unlike his teammates was the only one that was human. He couldn't go any further as his limit was having that uncontrollable Dimension Sword. The stress of seeing his frienRAB die and/or get pummeled while he sat and could do nothing was just the line for him. So he stepped back gracefully. People don't understand that Kuwabura started off being the most immature a** out of all of them, and in the end, he matured the fastest.
 
Sometimes killing off loved characters is for the best. It makes the most impact because they are loved. He wasn't killed off, he just didn't join in the adventure. In fact, that's a big reason why Yusuke wanted to go home. He wanted to be with Keiko and Kuwabara.
 
So I finally got a chance to see part 1 of the Dark Tournament, I think. (I was watching it through Third Strike) And to be honest, I'm a little split on it. Having watched Chapter Black and Three Kings, and then coming back to the Dark Tournament, these fights have been pretty boring. I didn't really start getting interested until it was Yusuke and Kurama vs everyone else. I found myself doing a lot of fast-forwarding as well. Mainly past Kuwabara scenes.... I don't really care for him or his fights...

The announcer lady was very irritating as well as the committee with all the rules changing and crap (but I suppose they did what they were suppose to do). With that being said, I did enjoy a lot of the characters, especially Jin and Touya (sp?). I never understood why people would harp on Jin so much until I saw his fight with Yusuke.

I was also hoping I'd get to see Yoko Kurama on this, but looks like I gotta wait for the next dvd to get here. I want to see his first appearance.
 
Ouch, no love for Kuwabara? That's a shame. He's not my favorite (coming in fourth of the four), but he is still pretty awesome. I will say, though, it takes a shift in minRABet to go backwarRAB in the series and get full enjoyment from it. The guys are still coming to terms with themselves and each other during the Dark Tournament, development that becomes key in the final two arcs that you've already seen.

But then again, I've found that I get the most rewatch value from the Dark Tournament *shrug* The Team Masho round was probably my favorite, followed by the finals. Jin and Touya are pure win--Kurama vs. Touya is a personal favorite.
 
Nope, no love for underdogs Kuwabara has his moments, but he talks too much for me to enjoy his character. He's not as annoying as other characters in other series (Naruto), but I don't really care for the guy. I do like how he interacts with everyone though, but yeah...

I definately enjoyed the Kurama and Touya fight, but I think I enjoyed Yusuke and Jin's fight a little more. I'm looking forward to finishing this arc up, although, I could always just read the manga.
 
Yeah...I know this is total blasphemy to the Gurren Lagaan fanbase, but despite the awesomeness of his final battle, I found Kamina to be rather annoying overall... *RUNS FAR AWAY*
