Hi ladies. I am currently 38+5 days pregnant with my 2nd child. This morning I had my first internal examination. The baby's head is fully engaged (the doctor had his fingers on the head), my cervix is ripe and I'm already 2cm dilated. At my request, he performed a membrane sweep just to encourage things along a little bit. So now I am just wondering how effective this is likely to be, and if anyone has had personal experiences or known someone who has had a sweep carried out.
We live in a small country town, so I have had to travel to our nearest major hospital which is 6 hours away to await the arrival of our baby. I have been here for just over a week now, while my husband continues to work back home, waiting expectantly for "the call"! I elected to have the membrane sweep done so that my husband can travel here for the long weekend, in the hope that he will be here when I go into labour... which I'm hoping will be in the next four days. If I don't go into labour before this, he will have to travel back home and continue to wait for me to go into labour on my own, at which stage he'll just jump in the car and drive as fast as he can to get here!
