Glad to see this topic. I read through the thread and found some helpful suggestions and good humor! I, too, suffer with this problem. I work fulltime and finding something that works REGULARILY is my problem. I don't want to have run fast to the bathroom in the middle of work or wake up at 2:00 a.m. with a mess in bed (sorry). My bowels were slow due to slowing of peristalisis from taking "recreational" drugs in the 70s. Then, getting on pain meRAB was just the icing on the cake. We used to own a health food store and sold the "Smooth Move" but I have a reaction to anything with licorice in it, so couldn't take that. I use a Christopher's brand product called Quick Colon Formula (Part 1). It works fairly good, but I still have to resort to enemas frequently. I just use and reuse a "disposable" enema bag from a medical supply place. (They really are better quality than you would think a disposable to be.) I just use plain water. It's no fun to have to resort to such measures to go to the bathroom, but better than being bound up. Really, our bodies are designed to have a movement after each meal (2 or 3 bms per day) but most people never experience that. Meat (of any kind), eggs, and dairy products have ZERO fiber in them and y'all know to add more drinking water daily if you add more supplemental fiber. Having said all that and being a "strict" vegetarian for 20+ years, I still have problems. . . I stick to being a vege, though, because I believe it helps me in many other areas. I know I don't get enough exercise, but also I may have something going on "down there." I hope it's not an obstruction. I will try the MiraLax.
Have a smoooooooth day. lol

Miralax works really well for this problem. It was recently released OTC. I had bad problems with this from meRAB too, but Miralax has solved the problem. I have to take it daily.

Miralax doesn't work anymore I do eat fiber cereal every day my 10 year old daughter has grown fond of it too. So far in the past 2 days I have taken 8 double strenght laxatives a full 4 0z glass of lactulose and I am still waiting. I did go shopping and bought a lot of fruit and vegies. I am drinking water by the glass fulls (I hate water) It's 8:30 pm I feel like barfing:p . I'm sure i will get hit with massive stomach cramps at 3 am.
This is the worst feeling in the world all I wanna do is poo

I have not been able to find those fiber one bars?? What department do you look in and where, please??

Before they added oxicontin fiber con worked well. Now that doesnt' budge it. Ever since surgery and the oxi. Dulcolax works and works really fast and good.

I have this pain
and it is new
guess is comes from having to chew
those pills I'm on

this whole day long
I've tried colace
and senecot too
ate some fiber
but it didn't blow thru
thot bout prunes
even bought the bag
wondered bout
how long a time lag
don't want to be shoppin
when the urge do hit
can't be runnin to reach the pit
the pain is great and I don't move
wish my bowels would start to grove....

Dried prunes, prune juice - AM, on empty stomach; does wonders for me.
PM a cup of Dieters Tea. You can buy them in every supermarket or Health food stores. Make sure though you don't take the strongest ones (like 3 ballerina Tea, too strong and causes crumps).
They have different varietes. works great.

Good luck to all sufferers :-)

The Fiber One cereal is really yummy too, I also eat eat All Bran with Yogurt Bites 40% Daily value of fiber. This stiff is good as I said before my 10 year old daughter eats it up. I am doing a complete turn around on my eating habits. Last night while the rest of the family ate baked chicken, mashed potato(e), and corn. I made myself a baby green salad with baby carrots, english cucuraber, grape tomatoes boiled chicken,1 boiled egg and fat free dressing. and for a little snack one of those Philly Swirls sorbets. Those are yummy I could eat all six but I contained myself as my husband ate a whole container (60) breyers bites piggy, But I feel good no bloat so I will stick to the fruit and green and see what happens.
Who knew poo would be a hot topic :blob_fire

Pepper,

Fiber One bars are in the aisle where the granola bars are. The sell them at Target I know. They are packaged 5 to a box. Come in two flavors. Oats and Chocolate which have mini chocolate chips in them with a little drizzle of chocolate on the top. The other flavor is Oats and Peanut butter which has peanut chunks (or peanut butter chips, can't tell) with a drizzle of butterscotch) over the top. It has 150 calories, and 9 grams of fiber, which is 35% of the daily amout of fiber.

Emily, (ahem) please remeraber that they are no longer prunes but pitted and dried plums. They felt they were getting a bad rap as prunes so the plum growers have changed their names to dried plums...welll ESCUUUUSSSEEEEE MMMEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!:D :D :D :D :D :D

Don't know if this will help you or not but bannanna's constipate me. Also beware of carrots they are constipating in nature.

So Big Red, where would one find this SMOOTH MOVE? I have to tell ya, one of my kiRAB has a problem with "going big" and when she visits and says, "Mom, can I use your bathroom?" I panic because it usually enRAB with an overflow issue and she's way too erabarrassed to see a doc about it!

I'm glad someone else started this topic. I've been on various drugs for the last 4 years and it's been so long since I've been "normal". It's like one thing works for awhile then it's time to switch.

Thanks -- darn it I was just at Target too!!! I looked around the slim fast stuff and colace/Metamucil section-- NOT THERE!!

I swore by...Miralax...right after the surgery

For maintenance..... now every night I take a table spoon of Milk of Magnesia..If that doesn't work have a 1/2 glass of prune juice as a chaser.

If you prefer food dtuff...a small bowl of raisin bran w/ skim milk every morning or right before bed works like a charm the next morning..OR...2-3 dried figs, dried dates, prunes or apricots at bedtime also work like a charm...also satisfy that sweet craving.

Good luck..I haven't had a problem since...........;)
