I quite enjoyed it, but there were a few problems with it.
Mark Wahlberg. I think he's great in a lot of other roles, but I didn't really feel him as Max Payne. He just wasn't tortured or cynical enough. He wasn't bad and he kept it together well, but I don't think he was the best choice for the role.
Internal monologuing. It made the game and fitted with the film nior/graphic novel intentions. Yet all we got was one at the very beginning and no more. It made little sense why they got it so right in the very first scene and then we never got it again.
The Action scenes. Now don't get me wrong, they were good but they all felt like they were cut short. It seemed like that they were always building up towarRAB something great and at the last minute - when they should have been kicking up a gear - they ended. Like they were building towarRAB a climax and then someone forgot to add the climax.
I guess it just felt a little unpolished. A little more work and structure could have made the world of difference and made it an amazing action flick. As it was, it was a pleasently diverting, but ultimately forgettable, action flick.
