Max Payne thread.

Having not seen or played the video game i just took the film as i saw it.

I don't think it's as bad as everyone's making it out to be! I actually quite like Mark Wahlberg and thought he suited the role of Max Payne quite well imo (unlike his role in The Happening!).

Plotwise i just didn't understand it.
So his wife worked for a pharmaceutical company and worked on the Valkyr project but was murdered for what reason? I know BB was there at the time of her murder as we saw him leave her room and he was the 3rd man but why was she killed?
It's a half decent action film anyway with some supernatural bits thrown in for good measure. Reminded me quite a bit of Constantine (which i thought was rubbish!).

It was interesting spotting all the tv faces, hahaha! :D Sucre from Prison Break, Daphne the SpeeRABter from Heroes and of course Mila Kunis from That 70's Show.

Did anyone see the final scene after the credits rolled. Interesting....

Saw it last night and thought it was absolutely abysmal. I was a big fan of the games too, but this "movie" just defecated all over it.

A) It was too tame, definitely seemed dumbed down "for the kiRAB".
B) They messed with the characters (Jim Bravura in the game was an elderly white man with a beard and moustache...).
C) It was painfully slow.
D) The acting from all involved (apart from Olga Kurylenko's body) was awful.
E) The direction was lame, and relied too much on "stylish" camera angles that made it unintentionally hilarious (case in point the scene were Max is just spinning around on the spot for no apparent reason).

Diary of the Dead is still the worst film i've seen this year, but this is a very close second. Dire.

I agree, that's exactly how I felt after it had ended.

Chris O'Donnell was in it?!?!?!?!

Wasn't she in Hitman? (Where we got to see her baps instead of clever editing covering them in this one?!)

No, we didn't stay that long... what happened? I take it a sequel has been set up?

Incidentally, the trailer we saw for My Best Friend's Girl looked really funny, and was very rude for a trailer (never see uncut trailers often). I wish we'd gone to see it instead as I believe that film is already released.

Paddy :D

From what I remember it was a very enjoyable 'game noir' so in theory, if the atmosphere of the game has been retained, it's the kind of adaptation that should appeal to me.

It's done OK at the box office but the critics are caning it.

Some from music too.

Nelly Furtado played his dead partner's wife and Ludacris played Bravura.

Not mad keen on the film, I kept falling asleep too.

Was that Nelly Furtado? Lol. I thought she looked familiar but couldn't place her. I already knew about Ludacris as i recognised him early on.

After the end credits rolled, well yes it looked like a sequel was being set up but i read in an interview Mark Wahlberg said there will be no sequel so it's a bit pointless really! But here it is for you (quality ain't that great!) -

I saw this when it was first released. I didn't know it was from a game and the trailers made me think he was some kind of super hero or something with wings etc :o So I was a bit disappointed in that sense.

It was ok, not bad, but a bit forgettable. The storyline was a bit stupid and unexplained in parts, which was a shame as they had been bigging this up for ages
